As a Senior Front-End Engineer, you’ll help power Beacon's mission by building first-class web applications that drive forward new EEG analysis with data analytics capabilities, manage clinical studies of novel therapeutics, and enable physicians to diagnose patients through at-home sleep tests This isn’t just another web app — you’ll be crafting tools that help unlock insights into neurological, psychiatric, and sleep disorders, with the potential to improve lives at scale. What success looks like: As part of our small, mission-driven Web Apps Team, you will: Develop our React/Typescript web applications. Design and implement UX workflows for clinical study management, data analytics, and patient diagnostics. Own the user experience, performance, reliability, and observability of the web apps and features you develop, leveraging feedback from real users in a diverse set of use cases and environments. Partner with product designers and cross-functional teams to develop user-centric capabilities that empower a wide set of user personas, both internally and externally. Help shape the roadmap and technical direction of our web applications. In your first 3–6 months, you might: Build a new feature for visualizing insights into an ongoing clinical trial. Develop a physician workflow for turning outputs from our AI algorithms into a customized diagnostic report. Enable study sites to better manage the enrollment of study participants. Deploy new features to help our Clinical Operations team track compliance. What you will bring: 8+ years of experience in front-end web development (React and Typescript). Experience developing data-rich applications involving interactive visualization and manipulation of large amounts of data. A product mindset — you care deeply about UX, edge cases, and performance. You're familiar with GraphQL-based APIs, and can build consumers that scale well. You're adept at identifying optimization bottlenecks, and debuggers and code profiling tools are an important part of your toolkit. Strong communication skills and comfort working in a collaborative, async environment. Bonus points if you've: Worked on applications for clinical trials, patients, or in some other regulated environment. Have experience in EEG or with DSP. Have worked on back-end systems or infrastructure. Contributed to open source React/Typescript projects. The Datastore sits at the heart of Beacon's platform. It defines our foundational data model and serves as the centralized repository and API for brain data collected from clinical studies, supporting the analytical tools, services, and applications used by our scientists, clinicians, and partners. This role emphasizes the design and scaling of backend systems for data infrastructure, such as event-driven pipelines, data modeling, and APIs that enable scientific and clinical data use - distinct from frontend development or end-user application logic. You will lead the design and integration of new services and components for data and event processing, contribute to scaling the Datastore’s core infrastructure, and collaborate with platform and application teams to implement APIs that unlock new workflows in Beacon’s expanding portfolio of clinical studies and digital health products. What success looks like You partner with product managers, internal stakeholders, and other development and support teams to design new integrations, services, and solutions for scaling Beacon's data platform You implement features with attention to detail, demonstrating product awareness and high standards for data integrity, design soundness, and maintainability across the lifespan of the system You draft RFCs to lead complex feature discovery and technical design phases, soliciting and incorporating input, and helping your team align on a set of decisions to guide development You leverage feedback from internal stakeholders and external partners to improve operational robustness and ease of use of the Datastore and its services via new documentation, tools, and dashboards What you will bring 5+ years of backend development experience, including at least 2 years focused on data engineering, data platforms, or infrastructure for data-centric applications Strong proficiency in SQL, with production experience working with PostgreSQL Hands-on experience with data streaming and event processing, using tools such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, Pulsar, or a cloud-based equivalent like Amazon Kinesis Proficiency in a data-oriented programming language such as Julia, Python, or R Experience with Julia is a strong plus, but not required - we welcome candidates eager to learn it! What you will bring: You have more than 4 years of industry experience in machine learning and deep learning, particularly in health sciences or other regulated fields, with a proven track record of bringing algorithms into production. You are experienced with digital signal processing (DSP) and statistics and care about using the right tool for the job, which in many cases might not be machine learning or deep learning. You are proficient in using PyTorch (preferred) or other deep learning frameworks for training, developing, and deploying deep learning models. You are familiar with latest Deep Learning advances (Transformer/ViT, large scale modeling, large model training, ...) You follow and adopt best practices in software and ML engineering, including testing, version control, code reviews, documentation, Dockerization, CI/CD, and experiment tracking. You are familiar with biosignals, medical imaging data, or large time-series datasets, or are enthusiastic about learning more in the domain.
