BayerAnywhereFull-time
View Job
Compensation$84K - 126K a year

Manage geospatial imagery data quality, governance, and delivery while collaborating with engineering and business teams to support imagery pipelines and data usage. | Bachelor's degree in GIS or STEM, 5+ years geospatial data experience, knowledge of GIS and remote sensing, Python and SQL skills, agile experience, and strong communication and documentation abilities. | PURPOSE In our Location 360 team we believe that the location of things, and the relationships between them in time and space, are of fundamental importance to creating transformational digital products. We are passionate about enabling teams to seamlessly incorporate spatial and location data into their applications, analyses, operations, and models. We do this by ingesting and stewarding much of the location related data for Bayer Crop Science, by integrating models that enrich that data, and by building platforms and interfaces that make it easy for teams to integrate that data into their work. Our Imagery squad is looking for an experienced and innovative Senior Data Steward to join us. A Data Steward at Bayer has rich subject matter and domain expertise, diverse technical skills, and a passion for the quality, integrity, and usability of data. Data Stewards are connectors - fostering vital relationships across a spectrum of roles and teams to ensure seamless flow and integrity of data, and a great user experience with our data platforms and services. Data stewards are translators - bridging gaps between complex technical terms and business concepts; between technical execution and business strategy. And data stewards are problem solvers - getting hands on with other teammates to perform data analysis, build data pipelines, improve data quality, and teach by example how to use our data and data platforms. This role will specifically focus on performing imagery and metadata quality checks, analysis, and creating technical documentation that supports the Imagery pipeline team and enterprise imagery catalog users. The candidate would enjoy using their Geospatial/Imagery background in helping gather data requirements, supporting the UAV/Satellite Imagery pipeline, and applying data strategies as part of their daily tasks. This role will support the IT strategy on an enterprise level and enforce data governance guidelines while implementing best practices when managing geospatial data. Bayer is heavily leveraging Open-Source Geospatial Technology across the Enterprise. Be part of a fast paced and dynamic team that serves as the geospatial backbone of the company! Your Tasks And Responsibilities The primary responsibilities of the Senior Data Steward – Location 360 Imagery Team: • Accountable for geospatial data quality, governance, and usage of data; • Geospatial data delivery coordination and monitoring between data stewardship, engineering, and business stakeholders; • Support both Geospatial Data Stewards and Geospatial Engineers in various approval workflows and data asset requests; • Identify new ways of leveraging our geospatial data assets for use in solving business problems across business units and global hubs; • Train and coach Data Scientists and Software Engineers/Developers in areas such as accessing data in our cloud-based data warehouse and APIs, geospatial data editing and data management with Python scripting toolsets/libraries and or QGIS desktop methods; • Work collaboratively with geospatial engineering teams and development teams in fulfilling data requirements, solving problems, validating best practices, and recommending viable options or solutions using your geospatial experience; • Conduct day-to-day geospatial/imagery data management, including data procurement, quality assurance, and documentation of best practices; • Develop POC’s for map visualizations or data transformations to properly vet business use-cases or project requirements; • Develop a deep understanding of our imagery workflows from data collection through stitching the imagery and serving the imagery back to the application; • Communicate effectively across teams and with business stakeholders to ensure business requirements remain aligned with planned and in-progress deliverables; • Effectively apply knowledge of georeferencing and the interactions of vector vs. raster data. Who You Are Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following: REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geospatial technology, STEM-related major, or similar • 5 or more years working with geospatial data, open-source technology, and geospatial platforms; • Solid foundation and understanding of GIS principles, technologies, and concepts; • Experience with remote sensing (UAS, satellite, aerial, LiDAR) or other raster data collection, processing, or workflow integrations; • Experience working in an agile organization with a good understanding of agile development and continuous deployment; • Basic experience with Python and SQL; • Ability to communicate a solid understanding of geospatial data and data service formats such as GeoJSON, JSON, WKT, WFS, WMS; • Good understanding of HTTP and REST request patterns with web services, and experience calling such apis and conducting tests, building documentation for them; • A track record of working within a fast-paced, dynamic, team-oriented environment; • Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills; • Familiarity with metadata and governance standards within geospatial data and applying those standards during data handling; • Proven ability to build and maintain technical or product documentation. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Demonstrated experience conducting data analysis and/or building data pipelines with Python, R, or other scripting languages; • Experience with quantitative statistics in a research or production workflow capacity; • Some experience using SQL and Postgres databases, preferable in a cloud environment; • Some experience working with cloud storage resources (AWS S3, Google Cloud Storage, Azure storage) and cloud platforms; • Familiarity with web mapping frameworks and capabilities; • Professional teaching experience using geospatial technologies; • Familiarity with photogrammetry tools such as Agisoft Photoscan, OpenDroneMap, or MicMac.
