Lead platform architectural direction focusing on Kubernetes lifecycle management and infrastructure as code, building self-service datastore platforms and collaborating on application design. | Bachelor's degree and 7+ years software engineering experience with expertise in distributed systems, cloud architectures, and observability platforms. | Join Axon and be a Force for Good. At Axon, we’re on a mission to Protect Life. We’re explorers, pursuing society’s most critical safety and justice issues with our ecosystem of devices and cloud software. Like our products, we work better together. We connect with candor and care, seeking out diverse perspectives from our customers, communities and each other. Life at Axon is fast-paced, challenging and meaningful. Here, you’ll take ownership and drive real change. Constantly grow as you work hard for a mission that matters at a company where you matter. Your Impact Every body camera upload. Every piece of digital evidence. Every chain of custody log that holds up in court. That's us. Axon's Platform team is the engine behind what hundreds of thousands of officers rely on every day. We're one of the world's largest blob storage customers, ingesting tens of petabytes of video and that number keeps climbing. Audio, photographs, sensor streams: if it's evidence, we move it, store it, and protect it. We're not in maintenance mode. We're in build mode. We're modernizing from the ground up with Kubernetes native lifecycle management, GitOps driven configuration, and infrastructure as code that actually reflects reality. We run a polyglot datastore environment: relational databases, wide column stores, document stores, caches, and queues and we're building the self service platform that helps every team at Axon pick the right tool and use it well. Kafka moves the data. Terraform provisions the world. Grafana tells us when something's wrong before our users do. You'll set technical direction across all of it. Not just implementing someone else's plan, but making the calls: which datastore patterns we standardize on, how we design for scale and failure, where we invest in automation versus buy versus borrow. You'll partner with teams across Axon who are building on top of our platform, and your architectural fingerprints will be on systems that process evidence for millions of people. Own reliability and observability of a critical platform, design monitoring systems, improve deployments, and collaborate with engineering teams to enhance uptime. | 5+ years in SRE or Platform Engineering with proficiency in Datadog, Kubernetes, AWS, and event-driven architectures like Kafka or RabbitMQ. About Axon 911 Axon 911 brings together Prepared and Carbyne under Axon. Together, we are creating the only platform that combines modern 911 infrastructure with an AI intelligence layer—helping public safety agencies move faster, make better decisions, and deliver better outcomes in the moments that matter most. 911 is the backbone of public safety, yet the professionals behind it have long been held back by outdated technology. Axon 911 is here to change that. Joining this team means more than taking a job—it means helping shape the future of emergency response and building a safer, more connected world. Position Overview As a Site Reliability Engineer, you'll own the reliability, observability, and operational excellence of our Unified Call (UC) platform—the mission-critical system responsible for handling 911 calls. This is a foundational role on a growing Platform Engineering team. You’ll help evolve the systems, tooling, and operational practices that support our applications today while building the foundation for the next phase of our growth. You'll have significant ownership, high visibility, and the opportunity to shape how reliability engineering is practiced across one of the company's most important products. This is a hybrid role, with an expectation of four days per week in our Manhattan office. Key Responsibilities Design and improve observability, monitoring, alerting, and incident response across the Unified Call platform. Build and mature deployment processes that improve reliability and reduce operational risk. Partner closely with Platform Engineering and the Unified Call engineering team to improve system resiliency and uptime. Analyze system architecture, identify operational risks, and implement improvements before they become customer-impacting incidents. Develop dashboards, automation, and operational tooling that enable engineers to confidently operate production systems. Help establish Site Reliability Engineering best practices as the organization continues to scale. What Make You a Great Fit We're looking for someone who has: 5+ years of experience as a Site Reliability Engineer, Infrastructure Engineer, Platform Engineer, or similar role. Strong experience with observability platforms (Datadog strongly preferred). Experience supporting Kubernetes-based cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS. Experience designing monitoring, alerting, deployments, and operational automation for production systems. Experience working with message queues, event-driven architectures, or messaging platforms such as RabbitMQ or Kafka. Working knowledge of cloud networking fundamentals. We believe this role requires someone who is comfortable: Building systems from the ground up rather than maintaining mature environments. Taking ownership of ambiguous technical problems with minimal direction. Leading operational improvements rather than simply executing assigned tickets. Collaborating across engineering teams while driving initiatives independently. Bonus (optional) Telephony or communications infrastructure experience (strong bonus) Experience supporting highly available, mission-critical distributed systems Benefits that Benefit You Competitive salary and 401k with employer match Discretionary time off Paid parental leave for all Medical, Dental, Vision plans Fitness Programs Emotional & Development Programs And yes, we have snacks in our offices Axon is a total compensation company, meaning compensation is made up of base pay, bonus, and stock awards. Lead and develop a team of Technical Account Managers to ensure successful deployment, adoption, and retention of Axon products in public safety agencies. | 8+ years in customer-facing technical delivery and 5+ years leading senior individual contributors with broad technical fluency and executive presence. Your Impact You will lead a team of Technical Account Managers who serve as Axon’s operational presence inside public safety agencies — embedded onsite, deployed regionally, or traveling to support critical milestones. Your team owns what happens after the sale: deployment execution, technical stabilization, platform adoption, and the sustained customer relationships that drive retention and growth. This is a hands-on leadership role. You’ll coach TAMs through high-stakes customer situations, set the operational standards your team executes against, and serve as the escalation point when agencies need senior Axon leadership at the table. You are accountable for the outcomes your team delivers — not just the activities they complete. This role is designed for a leader who can balance people management, program oversight, and executive stewardship in high-visibility, mission-critical environments. What You’ll Do Location: Remote within the US. Travel up to 40% Reports to: Senior Director, Customer Deployment & Technical Account Management Direct Reports: Up to 15 • Lead and Develop Your Team • Coach, develop, and hold accountable a team of TAMs operating across embedded, regional, and traveling engagement models. • Set clear standards for execution quality, customer engagement, and onsite presence where applicable. • Build technical depth across both hardware and software product lines — your team needs to be fluent in the full Axon ecosystem. • Drive performance management, skills development, and succession planning aligned to where the business is heading. • Create a culture where ownership, initiative, and continuous improvement are the baseline. Own Portfolio-Level Delivery • Ensure consistent execution of hardware deployments, software implementations, and integrated workflows across your assigned agencies. • Provide oversight for end-to-end delivery: deployment planning, risk management, cross-functional coordination, and lifecycle support. • Ensure TAMs are managing dependencies across hardware provisioning, network readiness, software configuration, and agency workflows effectively. • Establish and maintain the playbooks, standards, and operating rhythms your team runs on. Engage at the Executive Level • Serve as the escalation point for agency command staff, IT leadership, and internal Axon stakeholders when your team needs senior leadership in the room. • Coach TAMs on executive communication, value articulation, and leading customers through complex change. • Partner with Sales, Professional Services, Support, and Product to align delivery with customer commitments and long-term strategy. • Advocate for your customers internally — ensure risks, needs, and expansion opportunities are surfaced and addressed. Drive Performance Through Data • Own the metrics that matter: deployment timelines, issue resolution SLAs, platform adoption, CSAT, NPS, and program health. • Identify systemic risks or friction points across your portfolio and drive corrective action before they become customer-impacting. • Use operational data to continuously refine delivery models and improve outcomes at scale. Maintain Coverage and Continuity • Provide leadership-level support during critical incidents, complex deployments, or agency-impacting events. • Ensure coverage across all TAM engagement models — your team should never leave a customer without a point of contact. • Stay situationally aware across the portfolio without reverting to individual contributor work. What You Bring • • 8+ years in customer-facing technical delivery, program management, or complex technology deployment environments. • 5+ years leading senior individual contributors in high-accountability, customer-facing roles. • Experience scaling execution through teams operating across multiple delivery models — you’ve led distributed teams, not just local ones. • Executive presence and confidence engaging command-level or senior customer stakeholders in high-visibility situations. • Experience leading both hardware and software deployments, including coordination across infrastructure, networking, and field operations. • Broad technical fluency across SaaS platforms, cloud services, networking, hardware systems, and integrated workflows — enough to coach your team credibly. • Data-driven leadership: you manage through KPIs, dashboards, and structured operational reviews, not gut feel. • Ability to operate effectively in fast-moving, ambiguous environments while maintaining clarity and accountability. • Ability to obtain and maintain CJIS compliance and handle confidential, highly sensitive information. • Familiarity with law enforcement software systems such as Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) or Records Management Systems (RMS), preferred Benefits that Benefit You • Competitive salary and 401k with employer match • Discretionary paid time off • Paid parental leave for all • Medical, Dental, Vision plans • Fitness Programs • Emotional & Mental Wellness support • Learning & Development programs • And yes, we have snacks in our offices Benefits listed herein may vary depending on the nature of your employment and the location where you work.
