Lead onboarding, offboarding, payroll, compliance, benefits, HRIS operations, and PEO relationships. | Requires 5+ years in People or HR Operations, preferably at a Series B-D startup, with multi-state compliance and HRIS and PEO experience. | About Atticus At any given time, 16 million Americans are experiencing a crisis that requires urgent help from our legal system or government. The right assistance could transform their lives. But today, most never get it. Atticus makes it easy for any sick or injured American to get life-changing aid. Our mission is to tear down barriers between people in crisis and the aid they deserve. In the last six years, we’ve become the leading platform connecting people with disabilities to government benefits. We also help victims of accidents, misconduct, and violence get compensation from insurance. So far, we’ve helped hundreds of thousands of people access over $10 billion in life-changing aid —and earned over 20,000 five-star reviews. And we’re just getting started. We've raised more than $100 million from top VC firms like Forerunner, Google Ventures, and True Ventures, and we’re on our way to creating a category defining business assisting Americans in need. The Job In the next two years, we aim to help over 250,000 Americans get access to life-changing benefits. Behind that impact is a remarkable group of people — attorneys, engineers, client advocates, marketers, product managers, and more. The Atticus People team makes that work possible — we build the systems, policies and operations that enable us to do our best work. We’re hiring a People Operations leader to uplevel the operational backbone of our People function: benefits, systems, payroll and multi-state compliance through our PEO, people policy, and our performance and merit cycles. You’ll manage the spend, the vendors, and decisions to uplevel our function and employee experience — when and how we leave our PEO, how to replace our HRIS, how our policies and benefits should evolve. As we grow, you’ll decide what we automate and set the standard for how this work gets done. You’ll report to Amy Yu, our Head of People, and join a small, high-ownership team that cares deeply about our mission and about having real impact. The ideal candidate has owned people programs and operations at a tech-driven company and is excited to build operations somewhere the work really matters. We’ve helped hundreds of thousands of people get the benefits they deserve, and the people doing that work are who you’d be building for. Qualifications 7+ years owning significant pieces of People Operations at a venture-backed Series C-D+ tech company, including benefits, systems, performance, compliance and policy You’re equally comfortable presenting benefits analysis as you are having a tough leave conversation, and handle both situations with tact and clarity You’ve owned HRIS systems end-to-end and implemented a new one seamlessly, and have chosen and managed People vendors and partners effectively You’ve partnered with senior leaders on performance and merit cycles, and you can run a cross-functional group that includes people more senior than you You operate with low ego but high ownership, and are comfortable both doing the work and directing it You’re comfortable operating in the gray — we believe in low(er) process and high judgment, so we don't have rigid policies for every case. This role requires applying good judgment and care when the answer isn't obvious. Salary and Benefits The role is a rare opportunity to join a fast-growing Series C startup that doubles as a B-corp social enterprise. Our team is still small enough for you to have an outsized impact on how we operate and how our people experience unfolds. We offer competitive pay — including equity — and generous benefits: Medical and dental insurance with 100% of employee and family premiums covered 15 vacation days & ~20 paid holidays each year (including two weeks at end-of-year) Free membership to OneMedical $600/year internet stipend $1,000 reimbursable stipend for education and training outside of work Up to $1,200/year student loan repayment assistance 401(k) and optional HSA/FSA Humble, thoughtful, smart, fun colleagues We anticipate the base salary band for this role will be between $130,000 to $185,000 in addition to equity and benefits. The salary at offer will be determined by a number of factors such as candidate’s experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity among our team. Location This job is fully remote and we’re committed to empowering everyone with flexibility. Work remotely, and travel to LA (on the company dime) as needed to be with your colleagues – usually quarterly, plus offsites. We care a lot about building a great culture and we think some interactions need to happen in person, so we put a lot of thought into retreats, offsites, and other ways to gather.

If you’re from a background that’s underrepresented in tech, we’d love to meet you. Lead infrastructure engineering, build platforms and tooling, shape infrastructure strategy, and empower product teams. | 5+ years infrastructure/SRE/platform engineering, cloud infrastructure experience (GCP preferred), software engineering skills, broad infrastructure knowledge including networking, security, CI/CD, and containerization. | About Atticus At any given time, 16 million Americans are experiencing a crisis that requires urgent help from our legal system or government. The right assistance could transform their lives. But today, most never get it. Atticus makes it easy for any sick or injured American to get life-changing aid. We've raised more than $100 million from top VC firms like Fika, Forerunner, Google Ventures, and True Ventures, and we’re on our way to creating a category defining business assisting needy Americans. The Job We're looking for a Lead Infrastructure Engineer to define what great infrastructure looks like at Atticus and build the platforms and tooling that help engineers ship fast without breaking things. You'll be our second infrastructure engineer, working with Jereme to shape our technical foundations from the ground up — setting the vision, building the systems, and establishing the practices that will support Atticus for years to come. • You'll own infrastructure as a product, serving Atticus's product engineering teams as your customers. This means: • Shaping our infrastructure roadmap — developing a clear vision for where our infra needs to go and driving progress toward it • Building security and operational foundations — laying the groundwork for sustainable growth • Improving reliability — reducing MTTR, establishing SLOs, bringing rigor to how we manage outages • Empowering product teams — you'll build the platforms and tools that let them own their systems end-to-end This is a senior IC role reporting directly to Toby, our VP of Engineering. You'll have a major hand in shaping our infrastructure strategy — and you'll also be writing code and shipping directly. We're a 20-person engineering team, so there's no layer of abstraction between you and the work. Qualifications Required: • 5+ years in infrastructure / SRE / platform engineering roles, with breadth across infra disciplines. We're looking for an infra generalist, not a deep specialist in one narrow area. • Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure (GCP preferred) and infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, Pulumi, etc.) • Strong software engineering fundamentals. You approach infrastructure with a builder's mindset. • Technical breadth across infra domains: networking, security, observability, CI/CD, database operations, containerization. We don’t expect you to be an expert in everything, just knowledgeable enough to be effective on a small team without other specialists. • Experience with consumer-facing, revenue-critical systems, though you don't need FAANG-scale experience. Bonus / Nice-to-Have: You've led infrastructure evolution at a growing startup, not just maintained existing systems. Ideally on a small team (<5 infra engineers). • You're excited by environments with little structure — where you're expected to understand the bigger picture, cut through ambiguity, and figure out what matters most. We are strongly committed to building a diverse team. If you're from a background that's underrepresented in tech, we'd love to meet you. Own and architect backend systems and APIs with user empathy and mentor engineers. | 5+ years building production software with increasing ownership, strong backend design, user focus, and mentoring experience. | About Atticus At any given time, 16 million Americans are experiencing a crisis that requires urgent help from our legal system or government. The Job Atticus works in an industry dominated by outdated technology that is ripe for fresh thinking. Our core competitors rely on massive call centers, antiquated CRMs, and paper checks. As a VC-backed tech company, our engineering team powers everything we do — from creating elegant and intuitive product experiences for people in crisis who are seeking legal aid, to building powerful tools for our network of attorneys that actually help them win the benefits they need. We're looking for a backend-leaning senior software engineer to join our Representation Pod, a cross-functional team of engineers, PMs, and designers building the core tools that help the law firms in our network deliver consistent and effective representation for our clients. The Rep Pod is building new products from scratch: reimagining what legal experiences for our clients and attorneys with today’s technology. This is a senior individual contributor role. You'll own complex backend challenges around how we structure data, systems, and APIs — while staying deeply connected to the clients & lawyers who use the products you build. That means bringing both genuine user empathy and sharp product instincts alongside the technical depth to make hard architectural decisions and see them through. What You'll Do - Own significant backend systems end-to-end: set and hold a high bar for architecture, design, implementation, and production health. - Partner closely with product and design to shape requirements, not just implement them — we trust your intuitions and want you to have opinions - You’ll bring 0-to-1 product thinking to an area where your work has a tangible impact on our client’s wellbeing. - Mentor engineers on the team, with particular emphasis on backend patterns - Work across the stack as needed, everything from frontend UI work to data systems. What We're Looking For Required: - 5+ years of experience building production software, including meaningful time at a seed-stage startup or as an early member of a new product team at a later-stage company — with clear evidence of increasing scope and ownership over time - Experience on a high-performing product team, working closely with strong PMs and designers to ship user-focused solutions - Experience designing and operating reliable, scalable backend systems and APIs, with a high bar for data modeling and architecture - Deep user empathy — you think carefully about the people using what you build, not just the technical implementation - A track record of mentoring engineers and genuine excitement about helping teammates grow Bonus / Nice to Have: - Experience with Go - Experience with Google Cloud Platform, Kubernetes, Terraform, & Docker - Background in industries with complex workflows — legal, healthcare, or financial services - Experience building products for consumers or two-sided marketplaces - Experience evolving systems as teams and traffic scale - Interest in developer experience, internal tooling, or team process improvement We are strongly committed to building a diverse team. If you're from a background that's underrepresented in tech, we'd love to meet you. Salary And Benefits This is a rare opportunity to join a startup with strong traction — substantial funding, well-respected backers, real growth, and thousands of happy customers — while still being small enough to have a huge impact and help shape our culture. We're a certified B Corporation tackling a critical social problem. Everything we build touches real lives. We offer competitive pay — including equity for all employees — and generous benefits: - Medical and dental insurance with 100% of premiums covered for employees and their families - 15 vacation days and ~20 paid holidays per year, including two weeks at end-of-year - Free OneMedical membership - $600/year internet stipend - $1,000/year education and training reimbursement - Up to $1,200/year student loan repayment assistance - 401(k) and optional HSA/FSA Base salary range: $157,250 to $230,000, plus equity and benefits. Offer will reflect candidate experience, skills, and internal equity. Location This job is fully remote and we’re committed to empowering everyone with flexibility. Work remotely, and travel to LA (on the company dime) as needed to be with your colleagues —somewhere between quarterly and yearly.
