What You’ll Do The Senior Manager, Talent Acquisition is responsible for partnering with hiring managers to build strong and diverse talent pipelines and support the full hiring process for open positions across the ASPCA. This position will not only provide direct recruitment support to open positions in their portfolio but will also support key sourcing and operations tasks across all positions to support the Talent Acquisition Team and expand the ASPCA’s recruitment efforts. Responsibilities: Responsibility buckets are listed in general order of importance, and include but are not limited to: Hiring & Client Support • Lead the full-cycle recruitment process for an assigned portfolio of teams across the ASPCA: help develop accurate and compelling job descriptions and scorecards, design effective and inclusive interview processes, craft assignments and questions to collect the right evidence, and help make thoughtful hiring decisions • Coach hiring managers and help facilitate trainings on all aspects of hiring, including but not limited to effective interview techniques, model effective interviewing, and guide them through evidence-based decision-making • Oversee recruitment efforts for positions within your portfolio and proactively build a pipeline of exceptional talent for roles on staff, including identifying, meeting with, and cultivating top talent for future roles and collaborate across departments to engage staff in the hiring process • Stay abreast of best practices and develop and share new hiring resources as needed to equip hiring managers to more effectively navigate the hiring process and hire top talent Recruitment Strategy & Sourcing Support • Develop and execute key recruitment and sourcing efforts for roles within portfolio and other critical positions as needed, including posting on job boards, proactive resume mining, coordinating and tabling at on-site events, and other engagement strategies as needed to help build critical talent pipelines • Collaborate with the Director, Candidate & Community Engagement to support recruitment and engagement of critical roles at events, on social media, with our online talent community, and with other key stakeholders as needed Operations & Administrative Support • Complete key operations tasks for roles as assigned, including application review, initial screens, interview scheduling, onboarding, job description maintenance, reference check and background check review and adjudications and more as assigned • Utilize our applicant tracking system (Workday) and maintain other tracking and reporting systems to ensure our hiring process is efficient and effective, and that hiring data is accurate • Manage an efficient hiring process, ensuring that hiring manager’s needs are met and that candidates move expeditiously through the process, minimizing time spent in process and ensuring frequent communication throughout the hire process • Support logistics and administrative needs for select projects and recruitment activities as needed Education and Work Experience • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent professional experience required • 5 or more years of professional experience; minimum of 2 years in a talent acquisition or similar hiring-focused role required • Experience hiring for veterinary medicine a plus; willingness to learn and lead recruitment and hiring processes for licensed medical roles required • Experience directly supporting Hiring Managers through full-cycle recruitment strongly preferred • Experience working in and/or hiring for non-profit organizations strongly preferred; Serve as host at the event to ensure the organizations attending forge meaningful and lasting professional connections and share impactful information with each other • Channel innovative ideas and feedback from the Community back to the Learning Lab and the ASPCA as a whole, so that our programming and offerings continue to be relevant and leading-edge within the field • Identify unfilled educational and resource needs among organizations in the Community, with an eye towards filling those needs and harmonizing best practices across organizations • With direction from the Vice President of the Learning Lab, support multi-organizational collaborative efforts among partner shelters, such as joint research, conference presentations, or training events • Other duties as assigned Education & Experience: • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required • Minimum of 5 years of experience working as a professional animal behavior expert in a shelter setting required • Experience providing professional advising or consulting on animal behavior topics required • Experience facilitating in-person and online discussions, workshops, or courses for professional audiences required • Experience preparing & leading presentations for professional audiences required • Experience successfully building and curating a professional community, network, or association strongly preferred • Experience building and maintaining shelter behavior programs strongly preferred • Familiarity with change management principles and application of the principles to effect organizational change strongly preferred • Marketing strategy experience preferred • Education or experience in applying adult learning principles preferred • Low Stress Handling® University Silver-Level certification or Fear Free Shelters certification preferred, or obtained within six months of hire • Animal Behavior Society A/CAAB, CCPDT, or IAABC certification preferred or eligibility to obtain such certification within a year of hire required Qualifications: • Thrives on building and sustaining positive and productive relationships in person and remotely • Communicates in a manner that “meets people where they are at” when engaging with people with varied abilities, work styles, learning styles, value systems, and experiences • Demonstrated skills in facilitating respectful and productive discussions, including conversations on sensitive topics • Strong active listening skills and attention to details in the information conveyed • Strong written, oral, interpersonal, & electronic communication skills • Ability to comprehend and distill large concepts and multiple information sources into manageable concepts and actionable objectives • Proactively identifies opportunities and hurdles and takes the initiative to find solutions or bring them to the team for action • Eager to learn and apply new information, ideas, techniques, and technology to keep one’s own work and that of the program fresh and innovative • Must be self-motivated, extremely organized, and able to prioritize effectively, while recognizing when to ask for help • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic environment • Ability to stay calm and display care and concern for the well-being of others, self, and animals during stressful situations • Technical proficiency with Microsoft Office suite • Familiarity with team collaboration platforms (e.g, Microsoft Teams) and social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram) • Familiarity with AirTable is a plus • Must be able to work in a stationary position for 8+ hours per day and to work for 2+ hours at a time standing or moving about an animal shelter facility to meet the physical requirements of this position • Ability to work in a facility where humane euthanasia of behaviorally compromised animals may be performed on a regular basis • Candidates must provide a valid driver’s license upon hire and pass a motor vehicle history check demonstrating a safe driving history.
