AlphaGov is building a bench of survey research managers for resident, community, customer, and employee surveys for local governments, school systems, and utilities. You would design statistically sound surveys, run fieldwork, and turn results into plain-language findings for decision makers. We confirm scope, schedule, and fee with you before any engagement begins. What you'll do Design questionnaires and sampling plans for resident, customer, and employee surveys Manage multi-mode fieldwork (online, phone, mail, address-based sampling) Weight data and calculate margins of error and response rates Analyze results with cross-tabs, benchmarks, and trend comparisons Plan and moderate focus groups and community listening sessions Write reports and dashboards and present findings to councils and boards Contribute qualifications and past-performance narrative to AlphaGov proposals when you authorize naming Apply to be considered. Assess local-government operations and develop measurable, evidence-based recommendations with government leaders. | Requires 10+ years in local-government leadership, public-sector consulting, or organizational performance improvement, including knowledge of municipal operations and public budgeting. | AlphaGov is seeking an experienced local government leader or management consultant to help cities and counties improve operations, strengthen organizational performance, and deliver better public services. We welcome professionals with backgrounds in city or county management, public administration, operational assessments, performance improvement, and government consulting. Experience leading improvements from within a government organization is highly relevant; prior consulting experience is not required. About the opportunity You will help assess how government departments operate—from organizational structure and staffing to budgets, workflows, technology, and service delivery. Working with agency leadership and a multidisciplinary team, you will turn findings into practical recommendations with clear priorities, measurable outcomes, and implementation steps. We are considering candidates for project-based consulting and potential full-time opportunities, depending on experience, project needs, and mutual fit. Initial engagements are contingent on contract award and final scope. What you’ll do Evaluate departmental operations, organizational structures, management practices, and service delivery. Review staffing levels, workloads, spans of control, roles, and responsibilities. Analyze budgets, resource allocation, and opportunities to reduce costs or improve services. Interview department heads, employees, and executive leadership to understand operational challenges and improvement opportunities. Assess workflows, policies, internal controls, performance measures, and technology use. Benchmark operations against comparable governments and relevant best practices. Develop recommendations supported by evidence, estimated impacts, and implementation priorities. Present findings to government executives, department leaders, and elected officials. Collaborate with specialists in finance, human resources, technology, and other functional areas. Significant experience in local government leadership, public-sector management consulting, or organizational performance improvement. Experience leading operational reviews, organizational assessments, departmental improvements, or similar initiatives. A strong understanding of municipal or county operations, public budgeting, and organizational management. Ability to analyze financial, staffing, and operational information and translate it into clear recommendations. Strong interviewing, facilitation, writing, and presentation skills. A practical approach to change that accounts for service demands, budget constraints, and implementation capacity. Especially relevant backgrounds City Manager, County Administrator, Deputy or Assistant City/County Manager. Government Performance Director, Strategy Director, or Operational Excellence Leader. Senior Management Consultant serving municipal or county clients. Department Director with experience leading improvements across multiple functions.
