This PM-II position will be working in the Enterprise Communications Strategic Project Program within the Power Grid Operations organization to provide project management skills, specializing in the ability to lead project teams through telecommunications hardware and software deployments in Duke Energy vehicles, in data centers, in Duke facilities, on towers, and on the grid. Initial responsibilities will include leading a project to install a land mobile radio system in the Nantahala region—including towers and shelters work, core server installs, Duke facility installs, and radio installations in vehicles. Future efforts will require this role to lead an entire project team or teams in similar projects to deliver quality scope on time on budget. Financial acumen and schedule adherence are a primary focus of this role. Project Manager II position has single point accountability or can be under general direction of a Project Director or Senior PM. PM-II position is responsible for management of all phases of project planning and execution to ensure project success factors are met. These include but not limited to scope, schedule, cost, quality, environmental, safety, communications, security, and integration. The position is typically assigned a portfolio of "White" or "Green" ranked projects per the Project Management Center of Excellence Risk-Informed Project Ranking Process. Higher ranked projects with greater risk may also be assigned when accompanied with an Enhanced Support and Oversight Plan (ESOP). The position is accountable for a portfolio of assigned projects with Low to Moderate levels of risk that impact various levels of the Company, Senior Management or External Agencies. PM-II's may be assigned projects with specific risk-informed requirements based on specific experience and skill sets. PM-II's serve as unifying agents providing leadership, decision making, management, guidance, coordination, and control of overall projects in accordance with established policies, procedures, systems, and requirements of the Company. Entry to this level is based on experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, and should align with business unit personnel needs to manage the portfolio. This position is considered a Hybrid employee, which requires 3 days per week in the office. Responsibilities Create / Staff / Lead Project Team PM-II's provide leadership, oversight, delegation, and coordination with various internal and external organizations providing services to the project (Development, Engineering, Project Controls, Estimating, Construction Management, Supply Chain, Legal, EHS, QA/QC, Operations, Communications, Stakeholder Engagement, Regulatory, Security, Fuels, Transmission, etc.). PM-II's guide matrixed members of the team daily. They interface with functional leaders of matrixed team members regarding placement, development and conflict resolution. Establish and maintain communications among project/programs stakeholders Structure, lead, or assist in project related meetings to ensure open communication between team members, key stakeholders, and management. Prepare, communicate or report monthly project status, kickoff meetings, weekly and monthly required communication. Assure Project Plans and appropriate reporting means are developed and communicated according to PMCoE Standards and Business Unit implementing procedures. Effectively communicate with appropriate management/governance team. Plan assigned project(s) including scope, schedule, cost, safety, and quality aspects Champion the process of project planning including scope and work definition, estimating, schedule formation, monitoring, cost control measures, procurement/contracting strategies, equipment selection, vendor selection, start-up and commissioning plans, turnover to operations, warranty management, and integration processes as applicable. Execute projects according to plans within approved scope, cost and schedule constraints Includes objectives, stakeholders, scope, roles and responsibilities, assumptions and constraints, deliverables, Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), schedule, external communication, regulatory strategy, procurement strategy, contractor and supplier strategy, resource plan, budget, lessons learned, risk plan, quality plan, safety plan, environmental plan, security plan, integration plan, data management plan, communications and reporting plan, change management, and project close out. Basic/Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree AND five (5) years minimum required relevant work experience In lieu of required degree, High School/G.E.D. and nine (9) years minimum required relevant work experience Desired Qualifications Bachelor or Master’s degree in Project Management Working Knowledge to Proficiency in Project Management, Decision Making, Critical Thinking, and Problem Solving Project related work experience Risk Management, Project Leadership, Proven Collaborative Team Member Experience forecasting in the project environment Utility Experience, Construction Management knowledge Working knowledge to proficiency in project related Scheduling/ Cost Controls CAPM, PE, CM2-P, PMP or other related certification Working Conditions Hybrid Mobility Classification – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. Real Estate Sr. Project Manager Job Summary The Real Estate Senior Project Manager (Sr PM) holds oversight responsibility for the execution of Real Estate projects under the general direction of the Real Estate Project Director. This role oversees all phases of project execution—from contract award through closeout for high priority, higher risk projects—ensuring that critical success factors are met, including scope, schedule, budget, quality, environmental and regulatory compliance, safety, communications, security, and systems integration. The Sr PM oversees a portfolio of ranked projects as defined by the Project Management Center of Excellence (PMCoE) Risk-Informed Ranking Process. Acting as a unifying agent, the Sr PM provides leadership, decision-making, and strategic guidance across all project activities. This includes coordinating internal and external stakeholders, maintaining alignment with PMCoE policies, procedures, and systems, and ensuring delivery excellence from JLL or the Real Estate outsourced service provider in accordance with company standards. The Senior Project Manager must have the ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with individuals across the company, ranging from individual contributors to leadership. Responsibilities Oversight of Real Estate’s Outsourced Provider of Project Execution Services. The Sr PM will serve as the primary liaison and oversight authority for all project execution services delivered by JLL or other external service provider(s). This includes ensuring that JLL’s performance aligns with Duke Energy’s strategic objectives, operational standards, financial performance, and compliance requirements. Leadership & Coordination. The Sr PM will lead cross-functional project teams that include JLL personnel, ensuring seamless integration with internal service providers (ISPs), including IT, Telecom, AV, and Security, engineering, construction management, supply chain, legal, EHS, and operations. Contribute to the development of project field guides and process documentation. Process Excellence & Risk Management: The Sr PM will actively promote a culture of continuous improvement by partnering with JLL in collecting and applying lessons learned from past projects, actively managing risks, and mentoring team members for ongoing operational success. Through leadership and collaboration, the Sr PM will help identify process enhancements, share best practices, and ensure alignment with Duke Energy’s project management standards and methodologies. This role is instrumental in fostering a feedback-driven environment that strengthens delivery outcomes and drives operational excellence. Performance Management. The Sr PM will monitor JLL’s adherence to project scope, schedule, budget, quality, safety, and environmental standards. This includes evaluating deliverables and enforcing contractual obligations. Governance & Reporting. The Sr PM validates JLL contract metrics, oversees project meetings, reviews, and reporting cycles to maintain transparency and accountability. The Sr PM will ensure that JLL provides timely updates and that all reporting aligns with the Duke-JLL contract and PMCoE standards. Strategic Alignment. The Sr PM partners with the Manager of Portfolio Management to ensure that JLL’s execution supports business unit objectives, broader capital planning goals, and annual budgets. Issue Resolution & Escalation. The Sr PM will serve as the escalation point for any performance issues, scope deviations, or stakeholder concerns (i.e. internal service providers, cities, municipalities, permitting authorities, etc.) related to JLL’s delivery or project issues. They will coordinate with functional managers and governance teams to resolve conflicts and maintain project momentum. Basic/Required Qualifications A Bachelor's Degree and at least seven years of directly related work experience. In Lieu of Bachelor's Degree and seven years of directly related work experience, High School/GED and eleven years of directly related work experience. Desired Qualifications Proven experience in real estate project development and execution, preferably within utility or commercial sectors. Strong Expertise in Project Management. Expertise in construction management, cost controls, and scheduling. Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to manage matrixed teams. Experience excelling in a highly matrix organizational structure. Familiarity with regulatory environments and capital planning processes. PMP certification preferred or expected within 24 months of placement. Highly organized with strong expertise in decision making, critical thinking, and problem solving. Masters – business (MBA), project management, or equivalent. Operational experience in Transmission, Distribution, or Natural Gas operations Project related work experience: Risk Management Leadership, Oversight, and Employee Management/Development Strong project controls knowledge Experience supporting a large utility investment program with considerable regulatory interface Strong communications skills and experience with organizational change management best practices Business process management expertise Contractors License Working Conditions Hybrid Mobility Classification – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to a Duke Energy facility. Normal office environment with occasional travel to other sites (including construction, warehouse, generating and supplier facilities) and industry meetings Travel up to 50% of the time to project sites locally and within Duke Energy’s service territories.
