Position Title Senior Systems Engineer (Contract) Engagement Type Contract, 4 months with option to extend or convert to full time Schedule Full time contract engagement, typically aligned with standard business hours (8AM-5PM EST). Occasional after hours work may be required for maintenance windows or cutovers. Location Remote with potential onsite or client coordination as required. Position Summary We are seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to support infrastructure planning, deployment, troubleshooting, and operational improvement across server and security-focused environments. This role is heavily centered on server technologies and infrastructure systems, while also working cross functionally with the network team on projects that span compute, connectivity, access, and security architecture. This role has historically supported both internal and client-facing project work and will become increasingly internal-facing as infrastructure planning and deployment efforts expand. The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on experience across virtualization, server administration, endpoint and security platform deployment, and infrastructure troubleshooting, with the ability to collaborate effectively across server, network, and security functions. Key Responsibilities Server and Infrastructure Engineering • Design, deploy, support, and optimize server infrastructure across on-premises and cloud-connected environments • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to server platforms, resource deployment, virtualization, and infrastructure performance • Support infrastructure lifecycle efforts including implementation, upgrades, migrations, patching, and system improvement initiatives • Assist with architecture validation, change planning, and deployment execution for complex infrastructure projects Virtualization and Platform Support • Support VMware environments including advanced troubleshooting and administration across clustered infrastructure • Troubleshoot and support VMware Horizon environments • Participate in deployment and operational support of VMware NSX within clustered environments • Support Nutanix-based infrastructure and collaborate on operational best practices within hyperconverged environments • Assist with resiliency, performance, and scalability planning across virtualization and server platforms Security and Systems Deployment • Deploy and support infrastructure and security platforms including RMM, EDR, PKI, and privileged access-related systems • Assist with DigiCert PKI deployment and related certificate or trust infrastructure tasks • Support deployment and removal of legacy security tools as part of modernization efforts • Participate in evaluation and implementation planning for new privileged access management software • Coordinate with security and infrastructure stakeholders to ensure tools are deployed cleanly and aligned with operational standardsCross-Functional Engineering Collaboration • Work closely with the network team on projects where server, security, and network infrastructure intersect • Support deployment of Cisco Secure Access as part of VPN replacement efforts • Coordinate changes involving connectivity, segmentation, identity-aware access, firewall dependencies, and related infrastructure requirements • Participate in shared troubleshooting efforts across server, network, and security domains • Help ensure infrastructure designs are practical, supportable, and aligned across teams Project Delivery and Internal Infrastructure Initiatives • Support both active delivery work and internal infrastructure planning initiatives • Contribute to project planning, technical execution, documentation, validation, and transition to support • Provide technical input into design decisions, implementation sequencing, dependencies, and risk identification • Document deployment procedures, architectural notes, troubleshooting steps, and operational runbooks • Help improve internal infrastructure standards, repeatability, and long-term maintainability Operational Support and Escalation • Act as a senior technical resource for complex infrastructure incidents and project escalations • Perform root cause analysis and support remediation of high-impact infrastructure issues • Support change windows, system cutovers, and production deployment validation • Partner with internal teams to improve supportability and reduce recurring infrastructure issues Required Experience and Skills • 5 or more years of infrastructure engineering experience in enterprise or managed services environments • Strong expertise with Windows Server environments and enterprise server administration • Experience with virtualization platforms such as VMware vSphere or Hyper V • Solid understanding of storage concepts including SAN, NAS, and clustered storage systems • Strong troubleshooting skills across operating systems, virtualization, and infrastructure layers • Ability to work collaboratively with network engineers and security teams on integrated infrastructure designs Preferred Qualifications • Familiarity with identity systems such as Active Directory, Entra ID, and federation services • Experience with infrastructure automation, scripting, or configuration management tools • Experience with Nutanix infrastructure strongly preferred • Experience with VMware Horizon and VMware NSXExperience with Azure infrastructure and resource deployment troubleshooting • Experience deploying DigiCert PKI, RMM, EDR, or similar infrastructure/security tooling • Experience with Cisco Secure Access or similar secure access / VPN replacement platforms • Experience evaluating or implementing privileged access management solutions • Prior MSP, consulting, or multi-environment infrastructure experience preferred Job Types: Full-time, Contract Pay: $90,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year Work Location: Remote
