Senior Java Developer – NAOP (New Account Opening Platform) Position Summary: Zions Bancorporation’s Enterprise Technology and Operations (ETO) team is transforming what it means to work for a financial institution. Help us transform our workforce of the future, today. We are seeking a highly skilled Senior/Lead Java Developer to join our New Account Opening Platform (NAOP) team. NAOP is a critical enterprise application used by new and existing customers across our affiliate banks to open and manage a wide range of financial products, including Checking, Savings, Credit Cards, and Loans. In this role, you will lead the design, development, modernization, and support of key components within the NAOP ecosystem. You will work closely with Solution Architects, Developers, Product Owners, QA engineers, DevOps teams to deliver scalable, secure, and high-performing solutions that directly impact customer experience and business growth. The ideal candidate is a hands-on technical leader with strong Java expertise, experience building cloud-ready applications, and a passion for mentoring team members while driving engineering excellence. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, enhance, and maintain enterprise-scale applications supporting the NAOP platform. Lead technical design discussions and contribute to architectural decisions for new features and platform modernization initiatives. Develop secure, scalable, and highly available Java-based applications, APIs, and integrations. Collaborate with Product, Architecture, Infrastructure, and Business stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions. Participate in Agile/SAFe ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog refinement, design reviews, and retrospectives. Perform code reviews and promote engineering best practices, coding standards, and secure software development principles. Troubleshoot production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement preventative solutions. Design, optimize, and maintain Oracle database schemas, queries, stored procedures, and data integrations. Support CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation using modern DevOps practices. Develop and maintain SOAP/RESTful APIs and microservices deployed on Kubernetes or containerized platforms. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve application performance, reliability, observability, and security. Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and provide technical guidance across the team. Create and maintain system documentation, technical designs, and operational procedures. Participate in application modernization efforts, including Java upgrades and cloud-native transformation initiatives. Required Qualifications 8+ years of professional software development experience with Java-based enterprise applications. Strong proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, SOAP/RESTful APIs, microservices architecture, and modern software design patterns. Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL and Oracle or other relational database platforms. Experience developing and supporting applications in Linux environments. Strong understanding of secure software development practices and application security concepts. Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, source control management, and automated testing frameworks. Experience working with container technologies such as Docker and orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes. Knowledge of cloud computing platforms and cloud-native application design principles. Experience integrating with enterprise services such as IAM, SSO, authentication and authorization frameworks. Ability to independently drive complex technical solutions while collaborating effectively across teams. Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Java 17, Java 21, or newer LTS versions and integration with Orchestration layers. Experience with Azure, GCP, or other cloud platforms. Experience with Splunk, Dynatrace, Grafana or application monitoring and observability tools. Experience within banking, financial services, lending, or digital account opening platforms. Prior experience leading technical initiatives, mentoring developers, or serving as a technical lead. Education Masters or Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered. Location: This position has a hybrid work from home schedule with a minimum of three days per week in the office at the new Zions Technology Center in Midvale, UT. Zions Technology Center - 7860 South Bingham Junction Blvd, Midvale, UT 84047. The Zions Technology Center is a 400,000-square-foot technology campus in Midvale, Utah.
