This campaign is building a disciplined, people-powered operation focused on message clarity, credibility, and earned media that reflects the voices of the district. ABOUT THE ROLE The Press Secretary / Media Relations Coordinator is responsible for managing the campaign’s public voice with media, press, and external stakeholders. This role focuses on shaping narratives, responding to press inquiries, pitching stories, coordinating interviews, and ensuring message discipline across all public communications. This is a high-visibility role ideal for someone who understands political messaging, news cycles, and relationship-driven media outreach. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES • Serve as the primary point of contact for media and press inquiries • Draft and distribute press releases, media advisories, and official statements • Pitch earned media stories to local, regional, and national outlets • Coordinate interviews, press briefings, and candidate appearances • Develop talking points and rapid response messaging • Monitor news coverage and flag opportunities or risks • Maintain press lists and media relationships • Coordinate messaging with the Digital and Field teams to ensure consistency • Assist with crisis communications and issue response when needed IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS • Experience in political communications, journalism, media relations, or advocacy • Strong writing and editing skills with a clear, confident voice • Understanding of news cycles, reporters’ needs, and message framing • Ability to work quickly under a deadline and respond to breaking news • Professional, reliable, and comfortable representing the campaign publicly • Familiarity with Los Angeles media markets is a plus • Commitment to the campaign’s mission and values WHAT WE OFFER • Meaningful leadership experience in a competitive congressional campaign • Direct access to campaign leadership and decision-making • Opportunity to build a strong political communications portfolio • Flexible schedule with real responsibility and impact • Pathway to stipend or paid role as fundraising scales Work Location: Remote
