Design and implement AI-powered workflows and guardrails within a production SaaS platform for healthcare scheduling.
2+ years production software experience, AI agent deployment, strong TypeScript or Python skills, and comfort with ambiguous environments.
About YouShift Healthcare runs on people — but the systems that manage them are outdated. At YouShift, we’re building the AI-powered workforce OS for healthcare teams. Our platform replaces spreadsheets and fragmented legacy tools with an intelligent scheduling engine managed by AI agents that handles complex rules, compliance, and real-world operational constraints at scale. Our investors include Y Combinator (YC) and Bain Capital Ventures—partners who believe in our mission to redefine how hospitals operate. We’re channeling this investment into building a world-class team: people with relentless drive, sharp problem-solving skills, and the passion to push limits in a fast-paced, high-intensity environment. If this resonates, you belong at YouShift. The Role We’re looking for an AI Engineer to own and expand the AI agent layer of our platform. This is not a research role, but rather a product engineering one focused on turning real-world operational workflows into agentic, automated systems. You’ll design and implement AI-powered workflows that: Automate complex scheduling decisions Translate natural-language inputs into structured actions Detect anomalies and suggest corrective actions Assist operators in real-time You’ll work closely with product and full-stack engineers to bring these systems into production, reliably and safely, in a high-stakes healthcare environment. What You’ll Do Design and implement agentic workflows inside a production SaaS platform. Develop guardrails evaluation and testing frameworks. What We’re Looking For 2+ years building production software (or equivalent experience). Experience deploying AI agents in production environments. Strong TypeScript or Python fundamentals. Care about reliability, observability, and measurable outcomes. Comfortable working in ambiguous 0→1 environments. What it’s like to join the team Small team, high ownership and autonomy. We move fast, work long hours, and ship often. You’ll design systems from scratch and see them in production quickly. Real customers and real impact. If you’re excited about building deep systems that handle real-world complexity — and taking responsibility for the full lifecycle of what you ship — we’d love to talk.
