We thank you for your understanding.*** Java Engineer (Kotlin Preferred) Contract through April 2026; potential to extend Hybrid – 2 days/week on-site in Brooklyn Park, MN -- **must be local to MN** Rate: $50-75/hr W2 + benefits About the Role We’re looking for a Java Engineer (Kotlin preferred) to join a high-performing backend engineering team building scalable, distributed microservices for enterprise applications. You’ll work on systems that run 24x7, contributing to architecture design, development, testing, and on-call operational support. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems, working with event-driven architectures, and maintaining production-grade applications that prioritize reliability, performance, and maintainability. What You’ll Do • Design and build RESTful APIs and backend microservices using Java and Kotlin • Develop and maintain Spring Boot or Micronaut applications supporting distributed, event-driven systems • Build and manage Kafka producers and consumers for large-scale data streaming • Implement observability and monitoring tools (OpenTelemetry, Grafana) for performance and reliability • Apply test-driven development practices using tools such as JUnit and K6 • Participate in code reviews, design sessions, and CI/CD workflows • Ensure containerized deployment with Docker and orchestration best practices • Provide rotating on-call support for 24x7 systems and proactively resolve operational issues Required Skills & Experience • 5+ years of backend software development experience in large-scale or enterprise environments • Proficiency in Java and Kotlin (Kotlin strongly preferred) • Expertise with Spring Boot or Micronaut frameworks • Strong background in RESTful API development, Postgres, and Docker • Hands-on experience with Apache Kafka (producers, consumers, streams) • Familiarity with DevOps tools, CI/CD, and container orchestration • Proficient in test-driven development and automated testing frameworks • Excellent problem-solving, debugging, and cross-functional communication skills Preferred Skills • Experience working as a contractor or consultant in an enterprise environment • Exposure to cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure) • Knowledge of NoSQL databases and advanced architectural patterns (CQRS, event sourcing) • Familiarity with AI-assisted coding tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT) Benefits: York Solutions Offers a generous benefits package for eligible full-time employees: BCBS Medical with 3 Plans to choose from (PPO and High deductible PPO plans with Health Savings Program) Delta Dental plan with 2 free cleanings and insurance discounts Eye Med Vision with annual check-ups and discounts on lens Life and Accidental Death Insurance paid by company John Hancock 401(k) Retirement Plan with discretionary company match up to 5% Voluntary Insurance programs such as: Hospital Indemnity, Identity Protection, Legal Insurance, Long Term Care, and Pet Insurance.
