Bachelor’s degree plus 3-5 years of BI or analytics experience with leadership, proficiency in Power BI, SQL, DAX, Python or R, data architecture knowledge, strong communication and mentoring skills.
POSITION SUMMARY: The Business Intelligence and Data Visualization Analyst leads the YMCA of the Triangle’s enterprise data strategy, transforming complex datasets into insights that drive mission impact, financial health, and operational excellence. Reporting to the Vice President of Data Analytics and Insights, this role oversees business intelligence systems, data governance standards, and the delivery of high-impact dashboards and analytics. The Director serves as a strategic partner and technical expert, advancing data literacy, innovation, and evidence-based decision-making across all levels of the organization. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Strategic Leadership & Collaboration • Guides business intelligence and analytics efforts to support data-informed decision-making. • Aligns data strategy and analytics priorities with organizational goals in collaboration with the Vice President of Data Analytics and Insights. • Advances data literacy through the leadership of the Data IQ team, empowering staff to interpret and apply data. • Serves as the primary liaison between IT, Finance, Operations, and Program leadership to ensure cohesive data systems. Team Leadership & Coaching • Mentors data team members to build technical proficiency and professional growth. • Provides hands-on coaching in Power BI, SQL, and data visualization to ensure consistent standards and deliverables. • Builds team capacity through development pathways and cross-training. Business Intelligence System Development • Directs the design and optimization of business intelligence systems and tools that support organizational goals. • Leads data architecture planning to ensure scalable, secure systems that integrate with core platforms. • Improves data pipelines, integrations, and automation to increase efficiency and reliability. Data Governance & Quality Assurance • Establishes standards for data governance, accuracy, and accessibility. • Oversees data validation practices to maintain integrity across systems and business units. • Ensures security, confidentiality, and risk mitigation in partnership with IT and Operations. Analysis, Visualization & Reporting • Oversees development of dashboards and visual reports for stakeholders at all levels. • Leads cross-functional design of performance metrics and KPIs to guide strategy and resource allocation. • Synthesizes data insights and translates findings into actionable recommendations for non-technical audiences. Innovation & Continuous Improvement • Identifies and pilots emerging tools and analytics capabilities, including AI and predictive modeling. • Promotes a culture of innovation, experimentation, and continuous improvement. • Leverages data to enhance efficiency, member experience, and strategic growth. Organizational Impact • Delivers financial and operational insights in partnership with senior leadership to inform key decisions. • Supports strategic initiatives such as site planning, demographic analysis, and long-term forecasting. • Represents the YMCA’s analytics function in internal and external partnerships. • Models relationship-building skills and maintains effective working relationships. • Performs other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Business Analytics, Information Systems, or related field, or combination of equivalent experience. Advanced degree preferred but not required. • 3–5 years in BI, analytics, or data management, with experience leading teams or cross-functional initiatives. • Proven success managing enterprise data projects and integrating systems across departments. • Proficient in Power BI, SQL, DAX, Python, or R, with understanding of data warehousing, system architecture, and cloud-based platforms. • Experience in client-facing or internal customer support roles with a service mindset and ability to troubleshoot while maintaining a positive user experience. • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate data and technical concepts for non-technical audiences. • Able to think strategically, execute efficiently, and take ownership of data vision and reporting standards. • Demonstrated leadership, mentoring, and relationship-building skills that encourage adoption and collaboration across teams. • Highly organized with the ability to prioritize, manage multiple projects, and adapt in a fast-paced environment. • Demonstrated ability to maintain data integrity, handle confidential information responsibly, and support a culture of continuous learning and improvement. • Comfortable working in a dynamic environment, adapting to shifting priorities, and engaging effectively with diverse teams. • Must be able to provide valid identification for employment eligibility verification.
