Assist in managing programs, fill in for instructors, develop and promote programs, maintain records and equipment, and ensure program quality and customer service.
High school diploma or GED, 2+ years experience with children and adults in education or recreation, progressing toward YMCA Leadership Certification, and ability to perform physical tasks.
Basic Function and Scope of Responsibility: • Responsible for assisting with the management of specific programs and the staffing, customer service, marketing, revenue, and maintaining supplies related to these programs • Responsible for running classes and/or filling in when the program leader is absent or not available, or may be permanent leader/instructor as assigned Supervisory Responsibility: ¨ No Supervisory responsibility X Provides guidance, leadership, or training to other employees (no direct supervision) ¨ Directly responsible for supervising non-exempt, clerical, or office administration personnel ¨ Directly responsible for supervising exempt, professional, or technical employees ¨ Directly responsible for supervising supervisory/managerial employees Organizational Structure: Job title to which this position reports: Assistant Program Director, Program Director, Senior Program Director Job titles directly reporting to this position: None Job titles indirectly reporting to this position: None Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Supervises programs in designated areas; fills in when teachers/instructors/counselors when absent • Under the guidance of the Senior Program Director/Program Director, helps to develop new programs and generates ideas to improve program quality and delivery • Maintains and keeps organized records of staff recognition, achievements, certifications, discipline, training, and evaluation • Maintains a proactive leadership role in the day-to-day program delivery, and keeps on the pulse of program needs of our participants, via survey, focus groups, and one-on-one conversation, and makes recommendations for new programming opportunities base on the results • Responsible for promotion and marketing of YMCA programs and services, and works with Senior Program director/Program Director to develop new and creative marketing ideas • Maintains and manages all program equipment in related areas • Works with Senior Program Director/Program Director to create and implement new programs that serve youth, adults and families, which are designed to build community • Under the direction of the Senior Program Director/Program Director makes sure that programs are meeting budgeted expectations for both revenue and expenses • Maintains excellent customer service skills and a high level of professionalism when dealing with children, parents, members, volunteers, and the public • Provides program excellence • Works with Senior Program Director/Program Director to provide appropriate training opportunities to allow staff to meet federal, state, and local (as well as YMCA of the USA recommended) standards and certifications • Program Coordinator will be trained in bus driving a 15 passenger vehicle to substitute as a bus driver when needed. • Other duties as required Customer Service Standards: Staff Engagement: • Greets all participants with a smile and by name • Provides ongoing feedback to participants/parents Facility Excellence: • Provides a safe and clean environment • knowledgeable about the other service area programs and offerings Show: • Is proactive and responsive • Builds lasting positive relationships Required Competencies: Mission Advancement • Values - Accepts and demonstrates the Y's values. • Community - Demonstrates a desire to serve others and fulfill community needs. Education, Certification, Skills, and Experience: • High school degee or GED • 2 or more years experience working with children and adults in an education/recreation environment YMCA Leadership Certification: Position requires ongoing progress towards Leader Certification Working Conditions: • Must be able to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time • Must be physically active to play games and sports with the children • Must be able to pick-up at least 35 pounds • Must have visual acuity to observe all children
