We believe financial literacy is the key to a better future, and we reach millions of readers each month through our widely read digital publication, Moneywise.com (http://moneywise.com). We’re a close-knit team of techies, creatives, and journalists who genuinely care about our craft and each other. We move fast, stay curious, and treat every challenge as a learning opportunity. If you’re looking to grow your career while making a meaningful impact, we’d love to meet you. About The Position: Are you passionate about journalism and excited to join a growing digital publisher? Do you want to produce impactful news stories that help people from all walks of life increase their financial literacy? If so, we encourage you to apply. We’re seeking a curious and experienced Weekend Editor who can tackle complex money topics — from investing and taxes to insurance, retirement, and consumer finance — and turn them into clear, engaging stories readers are hungry for. This is a senior individual contributor role working the all-important Friday–Monday news cycle. You’ll be responsible for writing original stories, editing and optimizing weekend coverage, and ensuring all published content meets our standards for accuracy, clarity, and tone. Our ideal candidate is a motivated self-starter with strong editorial judgment and a talent for spotting trends, dissecting data, surfacing expert insights, and explaining money in a way that feels approachable and empowering. Beyond production, the Weekend Editor serves as a strategic bridge for the newsroom by analyzing performance data and audience trends from the weekend to provide actionable guidance and storylines for the broader editorial team every Monday. Similarly, the editorial team will help provide guidance for the Weekend Editor on Fridays to inspire story ideas for the weekend. This position is critical for maximizing the organization's reach, ensuring content optimization for organic growth and affiliate monetization during peak weekend traffic periods. Responsibilities (What You’ll Do) • Use advanced expertise in one or more areas related to personal finance and money to produce timely, accurate, and actionable news stories. • Edit original and syndicated content to ensure accuracy, clarity, tone, and brand voice. • Regularly monitor news outlets, financial reports, and social media platforms to identify and cover relevant and trending money-related topics. • Craft and pitch compelling story ideas that our audience will find useful, interesting, or surprising, including under tight deadlines and/or breaking-news conditions. • Actively participate in editorial meetings, presenting well-researched story ideas and collaborating with editors to shape coverage. • Align with Deputy and Senior Editors to plan weekend coverage. • Reach out to original sources, including individuals and companies, with the goal of conducting research and interviews with subject-matter experts to heighten article accuracy, credibility, and depth. • Analyze weekend performance and share clear, actionable takeaways with senior editors on Mondays. • Provide informal guidance or support to other editorial team members in areas of subject-matter expertise, as needed. Qualifications (Who You Are) • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field (asset). • 7+ years of journalism experience, preferably in personal finance, finance, economics, or a closely related beat. • Demonstrated subject-matter expertise in one or more money-related fields. • Demonstrated ability to self-edit and meet deadlines with minimal oversight. • Strong knowledge of Associated Press style. • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills. • Strong research skills and sound editorial judgment. • Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines in a fast-moving news environment. • Familiarity with content monetization, affiliate marketing, and SEO best practices is an asset. • Experience with multimedia content production is a plus. • Flexible and responsive to shifting news priorities.
