Candidates must have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechanical engineering and a minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical engineering, preferably in the refinery or heavy industrial sectors. Proficiency in mechanical design software and strong analytical skills are also required.
About the role Westwin Elements is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team at the Nickel Refinery Plant. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and overseeing mechanical systems and components for our refinery operations and providing input to EPC partners to ensure plant standards are maintained during design. This role requires a deep understanding of mechanical engineering principles, understanding of applicable codes, excellent problem-solving skills, development of project and construction deliverables and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. What you'll do Size and design mechanical equipment for chemical processing systems and components, ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations. This includes tanks, pressure vessels, other misc., static equipment, rotating equipment, heat transfer equipment, etc. Produce and check mechanical deliverables including but not limited to: Datasheets, bid tabs, general arrangement, and pipe stress calculations. Conduct, review, and approve design calculations related to pipe stress, equipment sizing, material selection, etc., to validate the performance and reliability of mechanical systems. Work closely with other engineering disciplines, project managers, engineering consulting partners, and contractors to ensure seamless project execution. Identify and resolve mechanical issues that arise during design, development, and production phases. Prepare detailed engineering reports, drawings, and specifications for mechanical components. Ensure all mechanical designs meet regulatory requirements and industry best practices. Stay updated with the latest advancements in mechanical engineering and incorporate innovative solutions into projects. Work with process engineers to size and design equipment specifications for chemical processing systems Review and oversee piping design and drafting efforts with Senior Pipe Designers Develop and maintain various design and engineering specifications Knowledge of industry, and implementation of national codes into design. Qualifications Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field. Minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical engineering, preferably within the refinery or heavy industrial sectors. Proficiency in mechanical design software (e.g., AutoCAD, etc.) and analysis tools (AFT Products, Caesar II and PVElite is a bonus, but not required) Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing processes. Proven ability to lead and mentor junior engineers and project teams. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.
