Position Summary We are seeking a highly skilled Senior SQL Server Database Engineer who can operate across the full lifecycle of our database environment—supporting application teams, administering SQL Server infrastructure, tuning performance, optimizing queries, and ensuring high availability across mission-critical systems. This role combines deep technical expertise with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work closely with engineering, DevOps, and product teams. Key Responsibilities Database Administration Manage, maintain, and optimize SQL Server instances across development, staging, and production environments. Implement backup/restore strategies, disaster recovery, high availability, clustering, and replication. Monitor and improve database health, capacity, and security posture. Performance Engineering Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks at the database, query, and application layers. Conduct index tuning, query optimization, plan analysis, and workload profiling. Collaborate with developers to review schema design, queries, and data-access patterns. Application & Data Support Support engineering teams on application/database integration, stored procedures, functions, and ETL workflows. Analyze data models and help implement scalable, efficient schema designs. Assist in troubleshooting application behavior related to SQL performance and data integrity. Operational Excellence Automate routine tasks using PowerShell, T-SQL, and/or DevOps tooling. Maintain documentation, diagrams, runbooks, and standard operating procedures. Participate in on-call rotations as needed for critical systems. Security & Compliance Implement encryption, auditing, access controls, and other database security best practices. Ensure compliance with internal policies and external standards (e.g., SOC2, FedRAMP, ISO). Work with InfoSec teams to remediate vulnerabilities and harden database systems. Qualifications 5–7+ years of experience as a SQL Server DBA or Database Engineer. Expert-level experience with SQL Server 2016+ (administration, tuning, internals). Strong T-SQL, indexing strategy, performance troubleshooting, and execution plan analysis. Hands-on experience with HA/DR technologies (Always On, log shipping, mirroring, clustering). Experience supporting customer-facing SaaS or high-availability applications preferred. Familiarity with Azure SQL, cloud database operations, or migration from on-prem to cloud environments a plus. Ability to collaborate with application developers, DevOps, and SRE teams. Strong analytical, communication, and root-cause problem-solving skills. Knowledge of performance monitoring tools (Redgate, SolarWinds, Dynatrace, etc.). Scripting skills in PowerShell or Python. Experience with ETL tools or data integration pipelines. Nice to Have Exposure to containerized workloads, Kubernetes, or CI/CD environments.
