Job Purpose We are hiring a highly strategic, data‑driven expert Senior Manager/Director of Marketing Automation to own and scale our marketing technology ecosystem. The focus is critically on Salesforce Marketing Cloud Engagement (SFMC). This role is the key driver for maximizing our SFMC investment. You will serve as the primary technical architect and product owner for our cross-channel platform. Lead the development of automated, personalized, and scalable lifecycle programs that drive engagement, conversion, and long‑term customer value. Crucially, you will translate strategic business requirements into clear, executable technical direction for our SF Engineering team. This requires deep SFMC expertise —not just execution skills, but also the ability to guide an engineering team toward optimal, scalable solutions. While you oversee website operations, this is fundamentally a Marketing Automation leadership, architectural, and technical direction role While familiarity with our full stack, including Marketing Cloud Account Engagement (Pardot), is helpful, this position requires deep SFMC Engagement mastery. You’ll work cross-functionally with Marketing, Sales, Product, HR, and Executive Leadership to elevate Welldoc’s voice in the market, strengthen engagement, and position us as a thought leader in digital health. Responsibilities 1. SFMC Engagement Technical Direction & Architecture (Primary Focus) • Engineering Leadership & Direction: Serve as the technical owner and primary liaison for our SF Engineering team. Translate business goals into scalable automation strategies, documented technical specifications, user stories, and development tasks for the engineers. • Platform & Governance: Own the Salesforce Marketing Cloud Engagement (Core MC) platform configuration, data governance, monitoring & reporting, security protocols, and overall technical roadmap. SFMC Certification (Administrator, Consultant) is highly valued. • Architecture: Design, document, and oversee the implementation of complex, multi-channel customer journeys, data integration pipelines (ETL), and API connectivity between SFMC and other systems. • Data Strategy: Define the strategy for Data Extensions, write efficient SQL segmentation logic, data‑driven decision‑making and manage data synchronization to ensure campaign effectiveness by following best practices for deliverability, compliance, and customer experience. • Quality Assurance: Establish and enforce rigorous standards for technical quality assurance, security, and performance across all SFMC development work. 2. Digital Operations & Website Oversight (Supporting Focus) • Website Health: Act as the sole internal owner of the corporate website (Webflow), overseeing its function and alignment with marketing goals. • Web Analytics & CRO: Own website analytics (Google Analytics, Hotjar, etc.). Use these insights to drive Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO) and direct necessary technical enhancements. 3. Analytics, Insights & Decision-Making • Collaborate with Data Science to refine performance reporting and dashboards. • Interpret performance data and translate complex technical findings into clear, strategic recommendations for continuous improvement. 4. Leadership & Collaboration • Lead by doing. This is a player-coach role that combines strategic oversight with hands-on execution. • Lead, manage and mentor a team of marketing automation specialists and developers. • Collaborate closely with stakeholders across Marketing, Sales, Client Success, IT, Product, CRM and Data Science to drive alignment, innovation, data quality, data governance and execution excellence. Manage vendor and platform relationships to support scalability and operational excellence. Continuously improve deliverability, engagement, and conversion metrics. Required Skills & Experience MarTech Leadership & Technical Direction (Priority Focus) • 5+ years of hands-on, deep experience with Salesforce Marketing Cloud Engagement (Core MC), including Journey Builder, Contact Builder, Automation Studio, and SFMC API integration. • 3+ years of experience working with technical resources (developers/engineers), specifically translating business needs into documented technical requirements for SFMC implementation. • Expert proficiency with SQL and managing Data Extensions for both segmentation and data modeling. • Deep understanding of the CRM data models, relational data, segmentation logic and technical infrastructure to effectively guide engineering solutions. • Familiarity with Salesforce Marketing Cloud Account Engagement (Pardot) is beneficial, but candidates must demonstrate that SFMC Engagement is their area of mastery. Industry & Execution • 3+ years in healthcare, digital health, or life sciences marketing. Must understand regulatory and compliance considerations (e.g., HIPAA, CAN-SPAM). Highly skilled in reporting and interpreting digital marketing metrics. Welldoc operates in ISO 13485 and MDSAP regulated and HITRUST and SOC 2 Type II compliant environments. Therefore, it is expected that all employees will have either prior experience working in those environments or will be trained to understand the requirements needed to work and support those requirements and culture as they relate to individual roles and responsibilities. Required Education Bachelors Degree in Marketing, Digital Marketing, Communications, Public Relations or similar background Compensation & Benefits Welldoc offers a competitive compensation package which, in addition to salary, includes generous PTO, medical insurance, dental insurance, vision care, life and disability insurance, retirement benefits. and the opportunity to participate in health savings accounts and/or dependent care accounts. While the anticipated salary range for this position is between $100,000-$140,000/year with the expectation that most candidates will fall around the midpoint of the range. Exceptional candidates may exceed the range if education and experience warrant.
