Position Type: Support Staff/Paraprofessional Date Posted: 1/5/2026 Location: Kinloch Elementary Date Available: 2025-26 School Year Closing Date: Until Filled District: Crestwood School District PARAPROFESSIONAL - SPECIAL EDUCATION (1:1) KINLOCH ELEMENTARY JOB GOAL: To assist in classroom management, individual and group student instruction, behavioral management, and various administrative and clerical tasks. QUALIFICATIONS: Under Michigan law, a Crestwood School District paraprofessional is required to hold a high school diploma (or equivalent), regardless of their assignment. A paraprofessional must meet one of the following requirements: • Complete at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (equal to 60 semester hours); or • Obtain an associate's degree (or higher); or • Meet a rigorous standard of quality and demonstrate through the passage of an approved formal state academic assessment (which, as of this contract, is the ETS Parapro Assessment) • Knowledge of childhood academic, social, and physical development • Knowledge of assigned developmental, behavioral, and/or physical disabilities • Some understanding of effective methods and techniques for working with special needs students • CPI certification is preferred • Excellent interpersonal skills are essential for effectively dealing with students with special needs. • Be flexible and adapt to changes in plans or activities on short notice • Willingness to complete further training as needed • Fluent in written and oral English PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: • Ensure safe mobility and transportation for students with a physical condition when assigned • Work cooperatively with teachers and other staff members • Assist the teacher in creating a positive learning environment for the student • Under the direction of the teacher, assist in planning the student's educational program • Provide instructional support and/or language support to assigned students in a one-on-one or small group setting under the direction and supervision of the classroom teacher. • Responsible for planning, as delegated, and carrying out assignments, including student supervision • Provide appropriate physical intervention to ensure the safety and provision of personal care to the students. • Keep such records as may be delegated to his/her responsibility • Maintain documentation of academic and behavioral progress as assigned • Demonstrate professional conduct, observe professional ethics, and exhibit professional growth • Comply with school district policies and procedures • Assist students' progress; maintain communication with classroom teachers and program administrators • Models appropriate behavior for students • Demonstrates and discusses student behavior • Assist in classroom management • Participates in team meetings with special education staff • Willingness to work as part of a team to deliver services • Provides general classroom assistance; assists in testing students and records scores • ?Could be assigned to work in various locations throughout the school district, which may include a range of one-on-one support, including personal care for students, small groups, or assistance for whole-class interventions. • Maintains a high degree of confidentiality about all district-related matters and records • Provides a friendly, open, safe, and service-oriented atmosphere • Perform any other job responsibilities deemed appropriate by the teacher, special education teacher/staff, or building administrator PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully.
