Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Research Associate. In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for conducting independent basic science experimentation based on research conducted in the assigned laboratory under the mentorship of a senior scientist. Individual is expected to seek to build a portfolio of research accomplishments in preparation for acquiring a higher degree in biomedical research or medicine. Job Responsibilities: • Generates hypotheses and designs and performs experiments to test them. • After a period of time working in the laboratory, the candidate will be expected to train graduate students and post-doctoral fellows in experimental design, technique and performance. • Participates in the editing and proofing of grant proposals, annual grant reports, and manuscripts for publication and recommends modifications to the Principal Investigator. • Contributes to the preparation of articles on research outcomes and progress and to the submission of same for publication. • Reads and understands relevant scientific literature. • Presents findings at lab meeting, responds to challenges, and participates in exchanges of ideas to advance the science. • Demonstrates a significant level of intellectual input into the design of the project. • Communicates results and collaborates with other professionals in the lab. • Prepares figures and diagrams for presentations and publications. • Based on results, independently suggests and tests modifications to protocols. • Records all experimental findings in a laboratory notebook, analyze and interpret experimental findings. • Executes multiple experiments simultaneously over time independently. Additional Position Specific Responsibilities: The Research Associate will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) to understand the literature around comorbid physical and mental health conditions, design simulation model analyses with the assistance of a computer program and carry out analyses to understand the impact of mental health interventions for pediatric patients at the population level. Analyses will include the use of decision analysis, clinical effectiveness, and cost-effectiveness techniques and may require the use of statistical techniques to address large datasets. The individual must have strong quantitative, analytic, and organizational skills, ideally with a background in applied mathematics or statistics, engineering, computer programming, or a related field. While the position will not require direct computer programming at this time, being able to think creatively and flexibly and to learn the basics of decision analysis is key. The position has potential to utilize direct programming skills for future projects. Curiosity and a willingness to learn are critical, and the PI will work to support the Associate in gaining analytic and clinical knowledge. Principal Responsibilities: Works closely with PI to devise and carry out simulation model analyses using TreeAge software. Performs literature reviews to assist with devising model inputs. Performs cost-effectiveness and statistical analyses. Collaborates with team members. Contributes to the preparation and submission of articles on research outcomes. Participates in the editing and proofing of grant proposals, progress reports, and manuscripts for publication. Minimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have a College graduate with a B.S. or B.A. in Biomedical or Physical Sciences.
