Full Description

Software Engineering Manager Bend, OR or Select US States • Full-time Vector Remote Care is committed to improving cardiac health through innovative remote monitoring solutions. As part of our team, you’ll contribute to impactful healthcare advancements with a patient-centric approach. Why This Role Exists Vector’s platform powers cardiac clinics and health-system networks with a unified operating layer for remote cardiac care. To deliver reliable value quickly—and reduce our tech debt—we need an Engineering Manager dedicated to team health, coaching, performance, delivery discipline, and high-functioning partnership with Product. This role ensures engineers have what they need to thrive: clarity, focus, mentorship, psychological safety, and frictionless workflows that enable high-quality work to ship predictably. The Mission (Outcomes over Methods) You will be accountable for these outcomes—the how is your craft: 1. A healthy, high-performing engineering team - Engineers feel supported, understand expectations, grow their careers, and have clear ownership. The team experiences low drama, high trust, and genuine psychological safety. 2. Predictable, reliable delivery - Teams deliver value at a sustainable pace with 4–6 week cycles. Tech debt is addressed deliberately, not reactively. 3. Seamless partnership with Product - Product gets consistent engineering input early (not late). Engineers continue to support our Continuous Discovery Habits framework. Engineers understand why work matters. Discovery and delivery run in lockstep. 4. Developer experience that keeps improving - CI/CD pipelines, tooling, process, and collaboration norms get better quarter over quarter—raising throughput without burnout. 5. Data-informed decisions and continuous improvement - Engineering metrics are visible, understood, and actively used to drive better outcomes. The team tracks what matters, celebrates progress, and uses data to identify friction points and validate improvements. 6. Quality embedded, not inspected - Defects and rework trend down because testing, automation, and observability are an integral part of the engineering culture. What You'll Lead Team Leadership and Coaching ● Coach and mentor engineers in technical skill, ownership, and career growth ● Establish clear growth paths and leveling (in partnership with leadership) ● Run 1:1s, performance conversations, and feedback loops that build trust ● Foster a culture of curiosity, inclusion, and continuous improvement ● Practice Radical Candor—care personally while challenging directly ● Lead hiring, onboarding, and retention for your team ● Build a diverse team aligned with Vector's mission and values Execution and Delivery ● Owns processes for sprint planning, execution, and retrospectives within our SDLC framework ● Manage team capacity, delivery predictability, and sprint/iteration health ● Ensure the team maintains focus and avoids thrash or outside-of-process requests ● Ensure the team maintains focus on work that support business objectives ● Unblock engineers and remove systemic obstacles ● Partner with Head of Engineering on cost/benefit analysis for technical investments and prioritization tradeoffs Process and Developer Experience ● Continuously improve coding standards, pipelines, reviews, observability, tooling ● Bias toward systems thinking (solving root causes over patching up symptoms) ● Drive sensible adoption of AI-assisted development and test automation ● Deep fluency with Agile practices and willing to adapt them to our context ● Build strong handoff & collaboration rhythms with Product, DevOps, and Security teams Cross-Functional Partnership ● Ensure team collaborates with Product early in problem definition and solution shaping ● Provide engineering input on roadmap feasibility, sequencing, and tradeoffs ● Builds trusted relationships with Support, AMs, Sales, and Operations in a controlled, transparent way Qualify, Reliability and Operational Excellence ● Partner with DevOps to ensure uptime, test coverage, and release confidence ● Promote best practices for testing, monitoring, and alerting ● Reduce sustaining/defect burden over time ● Own incident response coordination and post-incident analysis, ensuring the team responds quickly, learns from incidents, and continuously improves systems What Success Looks Like In 12 months ● Engineers feel supported, clear in expectations, and see career growth opportunities ● Delivery predictability improves—with fewer surprise delays or “emergencies” ● Tech debt plans exist for each team and see steady reduction ● On-call load and defect volume stabilize or decline ● Product and Engineering operate as true partners— not silos ● Engineering engagement and sentiment metrics improve Education and Experience ● 2+ years as an Engineering Manager leading teams of 4-8 engineers ● 5+ years as a hands-on software engineer ● Proven track record improving team delivery predictability and quality ● Experience with AWS-based architectures ● Strong technical acumen—can review code, challenge technical decisions, and mentor senior engineers ● Demonstrated ability to build trust, give direct feedback, and develop people ● Experience in regulated industries (healthcare, fintech, or similar) strongly preferred Nice-to-Have ● Experience in healthcare, remote patient monitoring, EHR integrations, HL7/FHIR/IDCO ● Exposure to HIPAA, SOC 2, HITRUST, or similar compliance frameworks ● Experience scaling from startup → mid-sized org ● Experience with Continuous Discovery Habits (framework by Teresa Torres) or similar PDLCs How We Work (Cultural Guardrails) ● Outcome-driven. We rally around problems/opportunities, not projects. ● Value in Discovery. Understand the opportunity, evaluate risk, implement the solution. ● Transparency by default.
