Within Commercial Banking, Asset Based Lending is an established product that has been identified as a key growth lever for the Valley. Opportunity We are seeking highly motivated and experienced Business Development Professionals to join our growing team and drive the development of asset-based lending (ABL) at Valley Bank on a national basis. This will be done in several principal ways. • In close collaboration with the C&I banking teams operating in their assigned geographic areas. Serve as an embedded resource to these teams keeping them informed of the ABL deal appetite and competitive landscape. • Developing opportunities directly through their referral networks and direct calling efforts. • Provide advice and propose compelling solutions to win business. • Cultivate overall bank brand awareness by developing and maintaining referral sources, as well as participating in and/or organizing industry events. Commitments held are typically between $15 million up $40 million. We seek to be the sole lender or lead lender in larger transactions. ABL at Valley operates as a product provider with the Commercial Banking teams having primary responsibility for client relationships on an ongoing basis. The role requires frequent travel to visit prospects, referral sources and clients. Key Responsibilities Responsibilities include but not limited to: • Work closely with C&I Banking Teams to identify and cultivate ABL prospects. • Qualify prospects to determine viability of the opportunity while pitching our value proposition and market differentiators. • Procure and organize due diligence information. • Prepare and present new business screening documents and financing proposals. • Coordinate with Underwriting Team to structure deal terms, prepare initial proposals and terms sheets. • Work in tandem with relationship bankers to spearhead prospect negotiations. • Working closely with Relationship Bankers, Underwriting and Portfolio teams to shepherd internal approvals, negotiate legal documentation and support prospect/customer needs and insure a smooth and timely process to close. • Develop and implement strategic and tactical plans to drive success. • Use CRM to coordinate calling efforts and record key activities as detailed in calling plans and objectives. • Continuously improve product knowledge, sales skills, and sales/relationship management techniques. • Ensure that the organizations activities are carried out in accordance with all regulatory, legal and governmental regulations, as well as, internal policies and procedures. Requirements Required Skills: • A college degree, preferably in finance or business administration, or equivalent experience. • Experience in asset-based lending/commercial finance, underwriting, portfolio management or similar background with strong credit skills. • Detail orientated with exceptional analytical skills • Strong communication, interpersonal and relationship development skills. • Highly proficient in the Microsoft Office suite. • Focused on meeting the needs of clients, with the ability to adapt to market demands. • Self-motivated, works independently and can operate efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Required Experience: • 10 years of experience originating and structuring asset-based facilities or 7 years or more current Valley commercial lending experience.
