Job Category: Academic Staff Employment Type: Regular Job Profile: Compliance Specialist II Job Summary: The Research Security Office at the University of Wisconsin-Madison was established to ensure compliance with United States research security requirements. Research security regulations apply to a subset of activities incidental to the education and research missions at UW-Madison. These activities primarily center around funded research and the effort to counter undue foreign influence on US federally funded activities. The Research Security Program Manager will assist the Director of Research Security Program in ensuring that research at the UW-Madison is conducted in a manner compliant with research security regulations, including NSPM-33 and the CHIPS & Science Act. This will include helping to maintain regulatory compliance by coordinating and promoting research security awareness on campus, coordinating cybersecurity requirements related to research security, and supporting all aspects of Research Security Program. Key Job Responsibilities: Compliance Specialist III: Audits and serves as a subject matter expert and point of contact for potentially affected units and affiliated organizations, ensuring appropriate notices are issued relating to compliance Compliance Specialist III: Assists leadership with developing and publishing compliance reports in accordance with established laws and regulations Compliance Specialist II: Assists with the creation and the maintenance of manuals, communication materials, and other compliance materials in accordance with established laws and regulations Compliance Specialist II: Collects, compiles, and organizes reports for a defined compliance program and communicates data to internal and external stakeholders when appropriate Compliance Specialist II: Issues compliance notifications and provides education and resources to inquiring entities Compliance Specialist III: Collaborates with other institutional compliance subject matter experts to review procedures and make change recommendations to leadership Department: Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research (OVCR) - Research Security and Export Control Program Compensation: Minimum annual salary for Compliance Specialist II: $55,000 Minimum annual salary for Compliance Specialist III: $65,000 Employees in this position can expect to receive benefits such as generous vacation, holidays, and paid time off; competitive insurances and savings accounts; and participation in the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS) pension fund. Required Qualifications: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks. This position is posted at Compliance Specialist levels 2 and 3. Level is determined by qualifications based on your prior work experience. To qualify for Level 2: Four years of professional experience. Experience interpreting and implementing government regulations. To qualify for Level 3: Six years of professional experience. Advanced understanding of regulatory frameworks, with a minimum of three years of experience in compliance or risk management. Ability to prioritize and manage complex projects. Preferred Qualifications: Technical or policy related cybersecurity experience. Experience with research security and export controls regulations. Strong interpersonal and management skills.
