JOB SUMMARY The Patient Transport Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the hospital's Patient Transport department to ensure safe, timely, and efficient movement of patients, equipment, and supplies. This role manages frontline staff, supervises dispatch activities, monitors performance metrics, and partners with nursing, case management, and hospital leadership to support patient throughput initiatives. The Patient Transport Manager plays a critical role in maintaining hospital capacity, reducing delays, and enhancing patient satisfaction through effective leadership, communication, and operational oversight. EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION Required Experience Three to five years of progressive experience in a healthcare related field Preferred Education Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, or related field JOB DUTIES Oversee all daily patient transport operations, ensuring safe, timely, and efficient movement of patients throughout the hospital. Supervise centralized dispatch functions, including real-time workload balancing, priority setting, and staff assignments across all shifts. Ensure adequate staffing coverage and proper resource allocation to meet hospital demand during peak and off-peak times. Monitor patient throughput metrics and escalate delays or bottlenecks that may impact patient flow, ED boarding, or capacity management. Coordinate with Nursing, Case Management, and EVS leadership to align transport resources with patient care priorities and room turnover needs. Provide direct oversight and operational support for the Departure Lounge, ensuring timely patient discharges, coordination of transport resources, and smooth patient transitions from inpatient units to the lounge. Manage and oversee the Wheelchair Van service, including scheduling, prioritization of transport requests, patient readiness coordination, and vehicle safety compliance. Collaborate with Command Center leadership to ensure transport resources are aligned with hospital-wide throughput initiatives. Develop and implement process improvements that reduce delays, improve patient flow, and increase operational efficiency. Lead, mentor, and develop transport supervisors, dispatchers, and frontline staff, ensuring high performance and accountability. Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide coaching, and implement corrective action plans as needed. Support recruitment, onboarding, and training of new transport staff, ensuring they are equipped to deliver safe, patient-centered care. Foster a positive, team-oriented culture that emphasizes patient safety, accountability, and collaboration. Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as transport response times, discharge transport completion rates, and patient satisfaction. Analyze operational data to identify trends, staffing needs, and opportunities for improvement, and prepare reports for Command Center leadership. Actively prioritize discharge-related transports to support bed availability and reduce length of stay. Partner with EVS leadership to ensure timely cleaning of discharge rooms and alignment with transport workflows. Serve as the point of escalation for issues related to delays, missed transports, or conflicts impacting patient flow. Ensure compliance with hospital policies, Joint Commission standards, HIPAA, and other regulatory requirements. Participate in hospital-wide committees, throughput initiatives, and performance improvement projects to represent Patient Transport operations.
