SUMMARY The U.S. Center for SafeSport is a nonprofit organization focused on ending all forms of abuse in sport. We endeavor to make athlete well-being the centerpiece of the nation's sports culture through abuse prevention, education, and accountability. POSITION SUMMARY The Vice President, Marketing & Business Development serves as a strategic leader responsible for driving the organization's growth through comprehensive fundraising, marketing, and partnership development initiatives. This executive role focuses on generating millions in annual revenue while building the organization's brand presence and credibility within the sports and trauma prevention landscape. The VP will lead efforts to secure major gifts, grants, and corporate partnerships while developing innovative and marketing strategies that elevate organizational visibility and impact. This position requires deep expertise in nonprofit fundraising, sports industry knowledge, and trauma-informed approaches to effectively communicate the organization's mission to diverse stakeholder groups including donors, partners, athletes, and sports organizations. The role demands a strategic thinker who can build lasting relationships, navigate sensitive topics with professionalism, and translate complex social issues into compelling funding opportunities that drive sustainable organizational growth. Job Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: Leadership • Liaise with executive leadership team to guide unified messaging to serve the Center's core audiences and effectively align distribution strategies of policies, educational content, and other resources supporting athletes, coaches, and families. • Work closely with CEO and Board of Directors to develop and implement strategic direction of Center's marketing and business development initiatives. • Oversee Customer Success, Development, and Marketing departments, providing direction and guidance to ensure alignment with organization goals and strategy. • Manage budgets, forecasts, and resource allocation for departments. Marketing • Oversee strategic marketing direction to support core Center functions including, but not limited to, Response & Resolution, Prevention Education & Outreach, and Audit & Compliance. • Develop integrated marketing campaigns that elevate organizational visibility and thought leadership. • Provide oversight for digital marketing strategies, including social media, content marketing, and website optimization. • Create strategic partnerships that amplify brand reach and credibility. • Ensure design, implementation, and ongoing use of measurement systems to track brand awareness and engagement metrics. Development / Fundraising • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing and engaged development team. • Oversee development and execution of comprehensive fundraising strategies across multiple revenue streams, such as grants, corporate partnerships, individual donors, events, etc. • In conjunction with development team, build and maintain relationships with major donors, foundations, community leaders, and corporate sponsors. • Lead grant writing and proposal development with proven track record of securing six-figure awards. • Provide guidance on and participate in design, implementation, and maintenance of ongoing donor stewardship programs that ensure retention and growth. • Create compelling case statements and funding proposals that clearly articulate organizational impact, collaborating with other leadership and teams as needed. Customer Success • Provide leadership and guidance to Customer Success team. • Review client pricing standards and create revenue forecast and analysis, negotiate contract terms with new clients as needed. • Manage contract process and approvals through organizational guidelines and work with legal to ensure contract terms and needs are up to date. • Review client documentation for onboarding, administrative training, system access features, and email communications to ensure optimal client experience. • Determine monthly and quarterly client reporting parameters, reviews and approves invoice documentation generated from clients. Other Responsibilities: • Identify, recruit, and manage relationships with current and former athletes who can serve as partners and authentic storytellers for misconduct prevention initiatives. • Develop structured programs that enable athlete partners to share their experiences through fundraising events, speaking engagements, and marketing campaigns. • Leverage athlete networks and social media presence to expend organizational reach and credibility within sport communities. Required Experience • Master's degree in business, marketing, or related field required. • Minimum 5-7 years progressively increasing experience in fundraising and marketing. • Proven track record of raising $2M+ annually in previous roles. • Experience managing teams and budgets. • Experience working with sports or youth serving organizations, or trauma-related causes preferred • Availability to travel up to 40% for donor meetings, conferences, events, and meetings at headquarters office. Required Skills & Abilities • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with ability to craft compelling narratives. • Public speaking and presentation skills for conferences, donor events, and media appearances as needed. • Ability to complete data-driven decision making with proficiency in CRM systems, marketing analytics, and fundraising databases. • Proven skills and ability to learn, perform, and transfer knowledge on multiple and diverse productivity programs and SAAS platforms (learning management system, CRM, project management software, accounting software, Microsoft Office). • Relationship building expertise with C-suite executives, board members, and high net worth individuals. • Experience managing and providing leadership to teams. • Project management capabilities. • High degree of consultative communication and negotiation skills. • Experience in budget development, fiscal and pricing analysis for business application. • Well versed in commercial contract terms and experience in expanding contractual improvements with legal teams. • Understanding of youth sports ecosystems, governing bodies, and key stakeholders. • Knowledge of trauma-informed care principles and application in athletic environments. • Familiarity with child protection policies, SafeSport initiatives, and misconduct prevention frameworks. • Ability to navigate sensitive topics around abuse prevention while maintaining organizational credibility. • Understanding of sports culture, athlete development, and organizational dynamics within athletic communities. • CFRE certification highly preferred. WORK LOCATION – Denver, CO; or a location deemed suitable by the Center (e.g., near major airport and a state where the Center has established business operations. Current states eligible for remote work: AL, AZ, CA, CO, CT, DC, DE, FL, GA, ID, IL, IN, KY, MD, MI, MO, MT, NC, NE, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OR, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, WI). This is a full-time, exempt position. The starting salary range for this position is $174,421 - $196,237 per year, and will be commensurate with background and experience. Benefits include paid time off for vacation, sick time, and holidays; group health insurance options; employer paid life insurance, disability, and parental leave coverages, 401k plan with employer match.
