Job Description The Director of Security Configuration Automation & Engineering is responsible for defining and executing the strategy, delivery, and ongoing management of security configuration enforcement capabilities across the enterprise. This leader oversees security engineering and automation initiatives that reduce risk, strengthen security posture, and enable business and technology teams to operate securely at scale. As a member of the Information Security Posture and Configuration Management leadership team, this role partners closely with security, technology, risk, and business stakeholders to translate identified security risks into effective engineering solutions. The successful candidate will lead a team responsible for developing automation capabilities, driving configuration management improvements, and ensuring security controls align with regulatory, compliance, and audit requirements in a highly regulated environment. This role combines strategic leadership, technical depth, and strong relationship management to deliver measurable security outcomes. Key Responsibilities Develop and execute the strategy and roadmap for security configuration automation and engineering capabilities across the enterprise. Lead security engineering and automation initiatives that improve configuration enforcement, risk reduction, and operational efficiency. Partner with Security, Technology Services, Engineering, Risk, Finance, and platform teams to identify control gaps, remove barriers to execution, and drive remediation outcomes. Translate security risks and posture management findings into scalable engineering solutions and automation opportunities. Drive implementation of preventive and detective security controls, including policy-as-code, pipeline security checks, configuration baselines, monitoring enhancements, and other security enforcement mechanisms. Evaluate and prioritize automation, configuration management, and security engineering investments using risk, business value, and cost-benefit analysis. Establish success metrics, operational reporting, and performance measures for security automation capabilities. Build, develop, and retain a high-performing team of security engineers, including coaching, career development, and succession planning. Foster strong partnerships across security and technology organizations to drive accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Ensure security technologies and controls support regulatory, compliance, governance, and audit obligations. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Information Security, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. 10 or more years of progressive experience in information security or related technology disciplines, with a demonstrated record of success in senior security roles. Five or more years of people leadership experience. Preferred Qualifications Professional certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CISA, CRISC, or related security certifications. Experience leading security engineering, security architecture, security operations, or security technology management functions. Proven success delivering enterprise-scale security engineering and automation initiatives. Strong knowledge of configuration management, posture management, and security control automation. Hands-on understanding of security engineering principles and the ability to evaluate technical tradeoffs and implementation approaches. Experience with cloud, on-premises, and SaaS security configuration and enforcement technologies. Strong understanding of modern security risks including cloud, identity, data, and AI security. Experience implementing preventive and detective security controls and automation capabilities. Background in DevOps, infrastructure automation, process improvement, security consulting, or related disciplines. Experience operating in highly regulated, audit-driven environments. Experience with enterprise reporting and analytics tools such as Tableau or Power BI. Strong leadership, communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills with the ability to influence across the organization. Location Expectation This role requires working from a U.S. Bank location three (3) or more days per week. Pay Range: $149,515.00 - $175,900.00 U.S. Bank will consider qualified applicants with arrest or conviction records for employment.
