The Signage and Wayfinding Specialist develops wayfinding solutions for operational and capital projects at UTMB. This role ensures that signage and wayfinding aids meet the needs of various stakeholders.
A bachelor's degree in graphic design or equivalent education and 4 years of related experience are required. Knowledge of applicable codes impacting signage requirements and strong communication skills are essential.

Job Summary: The Signage and Wayfinding Specialist is responsible for developing facilities' wayfinding solutions for operational and capital projects at UTMB. This role operates in a fast-paced environment and serves as the owner's representative for wayfinding to ensure signage and other wayfinding aids at UTMB locations meet the needs of various stakeholders, including Marketing & Communications, Development, Patient Services, Environmental Health & Safety, UTMB Police, and Information Technology Services. Job Duties: Collaborates with Facilities Planning, Project Managers, stakeholders, consultants, and external vendors to develop a project's wayfinding scope of work. Responsible for developing signage message schedules, signage location plans, budget, and coordinating fabrication and installation schedules with the overall project schedule. Wayfinding scope of work can include temporary and/or permanent signage. Collaborates with UTMB Purchasing and Project Managers on procuring signage vendors and fabricators. Gathers all necessary information for signage requisitions and purchase orders. Reviews and approves all invoices from contracted signage vendors to be sent for payment. During the construction phase of a project, responsibilities include but are not limited to reviewing submittals, attending construction meetings, conducting site visits, and developing punch lists. Supports In-House Construction in coordinating signage maintenance work orders, lifecycle projects, and operational requests from initial planning to fabrication and installation, as needed. Collaborates with the Facilities Information Management team and architectural teams to assign room numbers to new rooms. Produces specialized drawings, illustrations, layouts, and digital images as needed to support wayfinding projects. Marginal or Periodic Functions: Produces drawings and illustrations for emergency events, including building entrance closures, street closures, and pandemic masking guidelines. Work closely with MarCom, Patient Services, Ambulatory, and UTMB Police to meet stakeholder needs. Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure. Performs related duties as required. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Must have a working knowledge and understanding of all applicable codes that impact signage requirements. Excellent verbal, written, and visual communication skills are essential for this position. Must possess strong organizational and time management skills. Working Environment: This position is based at UTMB’s Galveston Campus. The position will primarily work in a typical office environment with occasional visits to construction job sites across UTMB locations. Salary Range: Actual salary commensurate with experience. Work Schedule: Partial Remote to be determined by the department. Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, and as needed on occasion.
