The Office of Research & Innovative Medicine at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine is seeking an experienced Senior Manager of Sponsored Programs to support and advance research development operations. This full-time position offers a remote/hybrid work arrangement and is a key leadership role within the EDR team. The Senior Manager of Sponsored programs will oversee the administration of the Internal Awards Program, including management of internal award staff and coordination of application and review systems (e.g., InfoReady, Box folders). This includes drafting and managing communications, ensuring timely and effective program execution, and supporting faculty engagement. This critical function directly supports the EDR’s mission to foster team science and accelerate the development of large collaborative research proposals and impactful publications. In addition to internal awards, the incumbent will manage a select portfolio of externally sponsored accounts, providing comprehensive pre- and post-award support to MSOM faculty. This includes budget review, compliance oversight, financial reconciliation, and liaising with the Office of Research Administration. CORE JOB FUNCTIONS Contributes to basic and applied research activities by collecting and analyzing data and maintaining databases. Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures. Provides guidance, mentorship, and oversight to junior research staff and students. Conducts meetings with research staff and ensure functions are coordinated in a timely and accurate manner. Provides technical support and resolves operational problems. Ensures all research is undertaken according to best practices. Maintains an overview of relevant research findings; assists in the preparation and publication of manuscripts. Stays abreast of developments in the field which may impact department functions. Advances expertise through continued education, training, and research. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets. CORE QUALIFICATIONS Education: Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field Experience: Minimum 7 years of relevant experience Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes: Knowledge of business and management principles. Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations. Ability to establish department goals and objectives that support the strategic plan. Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others. Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others. DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM Department Specific Functions 1. Internal Awards supervision for organizing and handling information via InfoReady and Box Folders, with prospective applicants; administer and oversee online application and review portal for internal awards. 2. Responsible for understanding and drafting communications for the EDR Internal Awards Program, via email, bi-annual webinar, and other opportunities to increase awareness. 3. Oversee monthly EDR Internal Awards meetings with faculty such as: SAC and IAC, in collaboration with existing staff and faculty. 4. Management of one direct report for the Internal Awards Program. 5. Detailed reporting on ROI for external grant submissions tied to internal funded pilots. Reports will take various forms such as: PowerPoint, excel, and smart sheets. 6. Specific project assignments as needed from the Office of the Executive Dean for Research's Leadership related to Internal Awards funding. 7. Oversee the submission of proposals for an assigned portfolio of departments, faculty and researchers. Submissions will be made to various Federal agencies, Foundations, and Industry sponsors. 8. Working with submitting Faculty to develop proposal budgets, review funding proposal instructions, and set up a process to collect all documents and meet sponsor and ORA deadlines. 9. Work as a liaison between faculty and central/compliance offices for reporting purposes such as: submission of annual progress reports such as: NIH RPPRs via ERA COMMONS, JIT requests and PRAMS. 10. Assist faculty with post award activities including preparation and interpretation of reports, forecasting, effort distribution and certification. Provide guidance on allowable and unallowable expenditures at both the budget stage and the post-award expenditure stage. 11. Must be meticulous and detailed oriented with respect to work product provided. Items include: RFA announcements, emails to faculty and department staff; maintenance of shared reports; ROI reports for MSOM leadership and database tracking and maintenance.
