Job Description Summary Organization's Summary Statement: The Dean’s Office of the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences (BSOS) provides central administrative leadership and support to advance the college’s mission in teaching, research, and service. It oversees academic programs, faculty development, and student success initiatives, ensuring alignment with university standards and strategic priorities. The Finance The office within the Dean’s Office plays a key role by managing budgets, monitoring expenditures, overseeing payroll and staffing matters, and supporting grant and fund management. This financial stewardship ensures departments and programs have the resources and guidance necessary to operate effectively, allowing faculty, staff, and students to focus on achieving the college’s educational and research goals. Job Description Summary: The Assistant Program Director serves as the lead financial administrator and business advisor for the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences’ (BSOS) Living Learning Programs: CESG, Honors Global Solutions, International Studies, and the MLaw Program. Key responsibilities include fund management, budget development, strategic planning, financial reporting, and maintaining auditable records. The position reviews and approves Workday and Concur transactions to ensure compliance with policy and budget guidelines. It also oversees the BSOS cash management program for human subject payments tied to federal awards and faculty start-up funds. Additionally, the Assistant Program Director is an integral member of the Dean’s Office Finance team, managing college USM and UMCP foundation accounts, processing foundation disbursements, and preparing Working Budgets for the Living Learning Programs. Hybrid work is available with a minimum of three in-office days Physical Demands: Must be able to spend long hours sitting and using a computer. Ability to travel between buildings on campus. May require light lifting of office supplies and boxes up to 25 pounds. Evening hours may be occasionally required. Ability to operate standard office equipment. Licenses/ Certifications: N/A Preferences: N/A Minimum Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university. Experience: Seven (7) years of professional experience planning, developing, or executing programs. Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Knowledge of program management principles, practices, and techniques, including planning, development, execution, and evaluation. Knowledge of organizational policies, compliance standards, and regulatory requirements relevant to program operations. Knowledge of budgeting, financial management, and resource allocation to ensure cost-effective program delivery. Knowledge of performance metrics and data-driven evaluation methods to assess program effectiveness. Knowledge of stakeholder engagement and relationship management strategies. Skill in program coordination and scheduling to ensure timely delivery of objectives. Skill in effective communication, both written and verbal, to interact with various stakeholders, staff, and participants. Skill in conflict resolution and problem-solving to address challenges and ensure smooth program operations. Skill in staff supervision, training, and development to build team effectiveness and capacity. Skill in analyzing data, preparing reports, and making recommendations for program improvements. Skill in using office productivity tools, project management software, and other relevant technologies to support operations. Ability to plan, organize, and manage multiple projects and priorities effectively. Ability to interpret and apply organizational policies, procedures, and compliance requirements. Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with directors, staff, participants, and external partners. Ability to exercise sound judgment in decision-making and demonstrate leadership in high-pressure situations. Ability to foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative program environment.
