The University of Iowa Health Care is seeking a Clinic Manager for the University Employee Health Clinic. This position plays a pivotal leadership role in advancing the health and safety of UI Health Care employees. This position ensures operational excellence, staff engagement, and compliance with all clinical, financial, and regulatory standards. Through strategic planning, leadership, and collaboration, the Clinic Manager supports UI Health Care’s mission to foster a healthy, safe, and productive workforce. The University Employee Health Clinic (UEHC) is seeking a Clinic Manager to provide managerial and clinical leadership to ensure the delivery of safe, efficient, and high-quality employee health services. The Clinic Manager oversees daily clinic operations, human resources, financial management, and regulatory compliance. This position ensures staff have the training, tools, and support necessary to meet performance and service excellence standards. The Manager focuses on planning, organizing, evaluating, and improving health care operations, clinical education programs, and quality initiatives. While the role involves limited direct patient care, it is instrumental in coordinating care delivery, occupational health surveillance, wellness initiatives, and compliance with institutional and federal standards. Key Areas of Responsibility and Specific Duties Human Resource Management • Recruit, interview, and select qualified staff. Make effective and timely recommendations for hiring, promotion, and disciplinary action. • Clearly communicate expectations, coach staff for success, and complete timely evaluations with supporting documentation. • Support staff development and succession planning. • Promote engagement through shared decision-making • Foster a respectful and supportive workplace consistent with UI policies and collective bargaining agreements. • Address attendance, leave, and performance concerns promptly and effectively. • Build a culture of accountability, collaboration, and service excellence. Financial Management • Prepare, monitor, and manage the clinic’s operating budget. • Develop staffing plans that align with patient demand, clinic volume, and institutional priorities. • Monitor expenses, productivity, and variances; recommend corrective actions when necessary. • Forecast and justify needs for capital equipment, supplies, and personnel resources. • Apply Lean principles and process-improvement methodologies to ensure fiscal responsibility and operational efficiency. • Motivate staff to be good stewards of UI Health Care resources. Operations, Quality, and Regulatory Compliance • Provide managerial and clinical leadership to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient care delivery. • Maintain systems that support high-quality occupational health services, including screenings, vaccinations, exposure management, and wellness programs. • Develop, implement, and monitor quality assurance programs and staff satisfaction initiatives. • Ensure compliance with UI Health Care, The Joint Commission, OSHA, CDC, and other regulatory and accrediting agencies. • Lead and organize recurring health campaigns and special projects, such as the annual influenza vaccination program, COVID-19 vaccination and testing clinics, fit-testing events, and other large-scale employee health initiatives. • Keep the clinic “survey ready” through consistent policy adherence, staff competencies, and documentation standards. • Identify inefficiencies and lead improvement projects to enhance care delivery, safety, and employee experience. Patient Care and Service Delivery • Coordinate the delivery of employee health services in collaboration with the UEHC Medical Director and hospital leadership. • Analyze trends in employee health data and use findings to inform prevention and wellness initiatives. • Ensure care coordination to support staff safety and health. • Promote and model the Service Excellence standards to ensure outstanding customer service and responsiveness. • Investigate and resolve employee/patient concerns to ensure satisfaction and trust. Planning and Goal Management • Develop and implement strategic and operational plans aligned with UEHC and institutional goals. • Use metrics and feedback to measure success and inform continuous improvement. • Forecast future staffing, resource, and programmatic needs. • Prepare progress reports and communicate achievements and challenges to leadership. • Incorporate employee and customer feedback into planning and service delivery. Communication and Collaboration • Serve as the primary liaison between UEHC, Hospital Administration, and the Carver College of Medicine. • Partner with the Support Services Director and Nursing Leadership to guide program development, budget planning, and process improvement initiatives. • Collaborate with departments such as Infection Control, Safety, HR, and Occupational Safety to coordinate institutional health initiatives. • Represent UEHC on hospital and university committees as appropriate. • Build and sustain effective working relationships across disciplines and promote a culture of transparency, respect, and collaboration. Education and Research Support • Oversee staff education and competency development to maintain excellence in clinical practice. • Mentor staff in professional growth, specialty certification, and leadership development. • Integrate evidence-based practices and quality management principles into daily operations. • Participate in benchmarking and continuous learning to ensure alignment with best practices in occupational and employee health. Technical Competencies • Plan, administer, and analyze budgets; identify variances and recommend solutions. • Manage and optimize clinical service operations, ensuring effective resource allocation and patient satisfaction. • Analyze complex situations and make sound, data-informed decisions. • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of OSHA, CDC, The Joint Commission, and UI Health Care compliance standards. • Apply best practices for staff evaluation, coaching, and performance improvement. Required Qualifications • Master’s degree in Nursing, Hospital and Health Administration, or Business Administration or equivalent combination of education and experience • At least three (3) years of comprehensive progressive healthcare leadership/administrative experience • Expertise in financial management, data analysis, practice management, and human resources • Experience with budget management (e.g., regular use of institutional financial reports to meet monthly and annual targets) • Demonstrated ability to lead change • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Strong interpersonal skills and high emotional intelligence • Demonstrate job-related experience with fostering a welcoming and respectful work/academic environment and/or otherwise demonstrate their ability to foster a welcoming and respectful work/academic environment for people from all types of backgrounds and viewpoints Desired Qualifications • Previous physician practice and clinic management experience • Previous experience in an academic medical center • Previous experience in the administration and management of clinical settings • Demonstrated results in improving patient satisfaction levels • Demonstrated results in improving clinical operations • Experience managing in a matrix reporting and unionized environment • Previous experience with oversight of multiple types of professional staff • Experience with program development Application Process Please attach a resume (under submission relevant materials) as part of the application process.
