Job Title: UC Cooperative Extension Specialist - Produce Safety Systems Company Overview: The University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR) is a leading institution dedicated to advancing agricultural innovation, sustainability, and community engagement across California. With a strong commitment to research, education, and outreach, UC ANR supports farmers, industry professionals, and communities to improve food safety and agricultural practices. Role Overview: As a UC Cooperative Extension Specialist in Produce Safety Systems, you will play a critical role in developing and implementing research-based solutions to enhance produce safety. Located at the USDA-ARS Sam Farr United States Crop Improvement and Protection Center in Salinas, CA, you will collaborate with diverse stakeholders to promote safe and sustainable produce production. What You'll Do: - You will conduct applied research to develop innovative produce safety systems and best practices. - You will engage with growers, industry partners, and regulatory agencies to disseminate research findings and provide technical assistance. - You will design and deliver educational programs and workshops to improve produce safety awareness and compliance. - You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to address challenges in produce safety and develop integrated solutions. - You will contribute to grant writing and secure funding to support research and extension activities. - You will publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at scientific conferences. - You will advise policymakers and stakeholders on produce safety regulations and standards. - You will mentor students and support the development of future agricultural leaders. What You Bring: - A Ph.D. in Plant Sciences, Food Safety, Agricultural Engineering, or a related field. - At least 3 years of postdoctoral or professional experience in produce safety or related agricultural research. - Strong knowledge of produce safety regulations, including FDA Produce Safety Rule and Good Agricultural Practices (GAP). - Proven experience in conducting applied research and extension activities. - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage diverse audiences. - Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple projects. Bonus Points If You Have: - Experience working with USDA-ARS or other federal agricultural research agencies. - Background in food microbiology or postharvest technology. - Demonstrated success in securing competitive research funding. - Experience in developing digital tools or resources for agricultural extension.
