Job Title: UC Cooperative Extension Specialist - Produce Safety Systems Company Overview: The University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR) is a leading institution dedicated to advancing agricultural research, education, and outreach. With a strong commitment to sustainable farming practices and community engagement, UC ANR supports California’s diverse agricultural industry through innovative research and extension programs. Role Overview: As a UC Cooperative Extension Specialist in Produce Safety Systems, you will play a critical role in developing and implementing produce safety programs that protect public health and support the agricultural community. You will work closely with growers, researchers, and regulatory agencies to promote best practices and compliance with food safety standards. What You'll Do: - You will develop and deliver educational programs and workshops focused on produce safety and regulatory compliance. - You will conduct applied research to identify and address challenges in produce safety systems. - You will collaborate with local growers, industry stakeholders, and government agencies to promote safe agricultural practices. - You will provide technical assistance and guidance to farmers and agricultural professionals. - You will contribute to the development of policies and guidelines related to produce safety. - You will publish research findings and extension materials to disseminate knowledge. - You will participate in grant writing and secure funding to support research and outreach activities. - You will engage with diverse communities to ensure inclusive and effective communication. What You Bring: - A Ph.D. in Plant Sciences, Food Safety, Agricultural Engineering, or a related field. - At least 3 years of experience in produce safety research or extension. - Strong knowledge of produce safety regulations, including the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with diverse stakeholders. - Proven ability to conduct applied research and translate findings into practical applications. - Experience in grant writing and securing research funding. Bonus Points If You Have: - Experience working in California’s agricultural systems. - Familiarity with USDA-ARS research centers and cooperative extension programs. - Multilingual skills to engage with diverse farming communities. - Background in data analysis and use of technology in agricultural safety systems.
