Job Title: UC Cooperative Extension Specialist - Produce Safety Systems Company Overview: The University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR) is a leading institution dedicated to advancing agricultural innovation, sustainability, and community engagement across California. With a strong commitment to research, education, and outreach, UC ANR supports farmers, industry professionals, and communities to improve agricultural practices and food safety. Role Overview: As a UC Cooperative Extension Specialist in Produce Safety Systems, you will play a critical role in developing and implementing produce safety programs that protect public health and enhance the sustainability of California’s produce industry. You will work closely with growers, researchers, and regulatory agencies to promote best practices and compliance with food safety standards. What You'll Do: - You will develop and deliver educational programs and workshops focused on produce safety systems. - You will conduct applied research to identify and address challenges in produce safety. - You will collaborate with stakeholders including farmers, industry groups, and government agencies to promote produce safety initiatives. - You will provide technical assistance and guidance to growers to help them comply with food safety regulations. - You will contribute to the development of policies and best practices related to produce safety. - You will publish research findings and extension materials to disseminate knowledge. - You will participate in grant writing and secure funding to support produce safety projects. - You will engage with the community to raise awareness about produce safety and sustainable agriculture. What You Bring: - A Ph.D. in Plant Sciences, Food Safety, Agricultural Sciences, or a related field. - At least 3 years of experience in produce safety research, extension, or related agricultural fields. - Strong knowledge of produce safety regulations, including the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with diverse stakeholders. - Proven ability to conduct applied research and translate findings into practical applications. - Experience in grant writing and securing research funding. Bonus Points If You Have: - Experience working in California’s agricultural industry or with local produce growers. - Familiarity with USDA-ARS research programs and cooperative extension systems. - Multilingual skills, especially Spanish, to engage with diverse farming communities. - Background in sustainable agriculture and integrated pest management.
