Role Overview: As a UC Cooperative Extension Specialist in Produce Safety Systems, you will play a critical role in developing and implementing produce safety programs that protect public health and enhance the sustainability of California’s produce industry. You will work closely with growers, researchers, and regulatory agencies to promote best practices and compliance with food safety standards. What You'll Do: - You will develop and deliver educational programs and resources focused on produce safety systems. - You will conduct applied research to address challenges in produce safety and develop innovative solutions. - You will collaborate with stakeholders including farmers, industry partners, and government agencies to promote produce safety. - You will provide technical assistance and training to growers and agricultural professionals. - You will monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of produce safety interventions and programs. - You will contribute to scientific publications and extension materials to disseminate research findings. - You will participate in grant writing and secure funding to support produce safety initiatives. - You will represent UC ANR at conferences, workshops, and community meetings. What You Bring: - A Ph.D. in Plant Sciences, Food Safety, Agricultural Sciences, or a related field. - At least 3 years of experience in produce safety, food safety systems, or agricultural extension. - Strong knowledge of produce safety regulations, including the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage diverse audiences. - Proven ability to conduct applied research and translate findings into practical applications. - Experience in grant writing and securing research funding. Bonus Points If You Have: - Experience working directly with produce growers and agricultural communities. - Familiarity with California’s agricultural landscape and regulatory environment. - Skills in data analysis and use of technology in produce safety monitoring. - Multilingual abilities to communicate with diverse stakeholder groups.
