Role Overview: As a UC Cooperative Extension Specialist in Produce Safety Systems, you will play a critical role in developing and implementing produce safety programs that protect public health and enhance the sustainability of California’s produce industry. You will work closely with growers, researchers, and regulatory agencies to promote best practices and compliance with food safety standards. What You'll Do: - You will develop and deliver educational programs and resources focused on produce safety systems. - You will conduct applied research to address challenges in produce safety and develop innovative solutions. - You will collaborate with stakeholders including farmers, industry groups, and government agencies to promote produce safety initiatives. - You will provide technical assistance and training to growers and agricultural professionals. - You will monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of produce safety programs and recommend improvements. - You will contribute to scientific publications, grant proposals, and extension materials. - You will participate in outreach activities to raise awareness about produce safety and regulatory compliance. - You will stay current with emerging trends and regulations in produce safety and food protection. What You Bring: - A Ph.D. in Plant Sciences, Food Safety, Agricultural Sciences, or a related field. - At least 3 years of experience in produce safety research, extension, or related agricultural fields. - Strong knowledge of produce safety regulations, including the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective stakeholder engagement. - Proven ability to develop and deliver educational programs and training. - Experience in grant writing and scientific publishing. Bonus Points If You Have: - Experience working with diverse agricultural communities in California. - Familiarity with USDA-ARS research programs and collaboration. - Skills in data analysis and use of modern research technologies. - Multilingual abilities to support outreach in diverse populations.
