Job Title: UC Cooperative Extension Specialist - Produce Safety Systems Company Overview: The University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR) is a leading institution dedicated to advancing agricultural innovation, sustainability, and community engagement across California. With a strong commitment to research, education, and outreach, UC ANR supports farmers, industry professionals, and communities to improve agricultural practices and food safety. Role Overview: As a UC Cooperative Extension Specialist in Produce Safety Systems, you will play a critical role in developing and implementing produce safety programs that protect public health and enhance the sustainability of California's produce industry. You will work closely with growers, researchers, and regulatory agencies to provide science-based guidance and training. What You'll Do: - You will develop and deliver educational programs and workshops focused on produce safety and regulatory compliance. - You will conduct applied research to identify best practices for produce safety systems and risk mitigation. - You will collaborate with local growers, industry stakeholders, and government agencies to promote produce safety standards. - You will provide technical assistance and consultation to farmers and agricultural professionals. - You will contribute to the development of policies and guidelines related to produce safety. - You will publish research findings and extension materials to disseminate knowledge widely. - You will participate in grant writing and secure funding to support produce safety initiatives. - You will engage with diverse communities to ensure inclusive outreach and education. What You Bring: - A Ph.D. in Plant Sciences, Food Safety, Agricultural Engineering, or a related field. - At least 3 years of experience in produce safety research, extension, or related agricultural fields. - Strong knowledge of produce safety regulations, including the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective stakeholder engagement. - Proven ability to conduct applied research and translate findings into practical applications. - Experience in grant writing and securing research funding. Bonus Points If You Have: - Experience working with diverse agricultural communities in California. - Familiarity with USDA-ARS research programs and collaboration. - Multilingual skills, especially Spanish, to enhance community outreach. - Background in data analysis and use of GIS tools for agricultural research.
