Job Title: UC Cooperative Extension Specialist - Produce Safety Systems Company Overview: The University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR) is a leading institution dedicated to advancing agricultural innovation, sustainability, and community engagement across California. With a strong commitment to research, education, and outreach, UC ANR supports farmers, communities, and stakeholders to improve agricultural practices and food safety. Role Overview: As a UC Cooperative Extension Specialist in Produce Safety Systems, you will play a critical role in developing and implementing research-based solutions to enhance produce safety. Located at the USDA-ARS Sam Farr United States Crop Improvement and Protection Center in Salinas, CA, you will collaborate with diverse partners to promote safe and sustainable produce production. What You'll Do: - You will conduct applied research to develop innovative produce safety systems and best practices. - You will engage with growers, industry stakeholders, and regulatory agencies to disseminate research findings and provide technical assistance. - You will design and deliver educational programs and workshops to improve produce safety awareness and compliance. - You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to address challenges in produce safety and develop integrated solutions. - You will contribute to grant writing and secure funding to support research and extension activities. - You will publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at scientific conferences. - You will mentor students and extension personnel to build capacity in produce safety. What You Bring: - A Ph.D. in Plant Sciences, Food Safety, Agricultural Engineering, or a related field. - At least 3 years of postdoctoral or professional experience in produce safety research or extension. - Strong knowledge of produce safety regulations, including FSMA Produce Safety Rule. - Proven ability to conduct interdisciplinary research and extension activities. - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage diverse audiences. - Experience in grant writing and securing external funding. Bonus Points If You Have: - Experience working with diverse agricultural communities in California. - Familiarity with the USDA-ARS research environment and collaborative projects. - Skills in data analysis, GIS, or precision agriculture technologies. - Bilingual abilities, particularly in Spanish, to enhance outreach efforts.
