Role Overview: As a UC Cooperative Extension Specialist in Produce Safety Systems, you will play a critical role in developing and implementing produce safety programs that protect public health and support California’s agricultural industry. You will work closely with growers, researchers, and regulatory agencies to promote best practices and compliance with food safety standards. What You'll Do: - You will develop and deliver educational programs and resources focused on produce safety systems. - You will conduct applied research to address challenges in produce safety and develop innovative solutions. - You will collaborate with growers, industry partners, and regulatory bodies to promote compliance with food safety regulations. - You will provide technical assistance and training to stakeholders to enhance produce safety practices. - You will contribute to the development of policies and guidelines related to produce safety. - You will publish research findings and extension materials to disseminate knowledge widely. - You will participate in grant writing and secure funding to support produce safety initiatives. - You will engage with diverse communities to ensure inclusive outreach and education. What You Bring: - A Ph.D. in Plant Science, Food Safety, Agricultural Engineering, or a related field. - At least 3 years of experience in produce safety research, extension, or related agricultural fields. - Strong knowledge of produce safety regulations, including FSMA Produce Safety Rule. - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with diverse stakeholders. - Proven ability to conduct applied research and translate findings into practical applications. - Experience in grant writing and securing research funding. Bonus Points If You Have: - Experience working within cooperative extension systems or similar outreach programs. - Familiarity with California’s agricultural landscape and key produce crops. - Skills in data analysis and use of technology for produce safety monitoring. - Multilingual abilities to engage with diverse farming communities.
