Role Overview: As a UC Cooperative Extension Specialist in Produce Safety Systems, you will play a critical role in developing and implementing produce safety programs that enhance food safety and public health. You will work closely with growers, researchers, and regulatory agencies to promote best practices and compliance with produce safety standards. What You'll Do: - You will develop and deliver educational programs and resources focused on produce safety systems. - You will conduct applied research to address challenges in produce safety and develop innovative solutions. - You will collaborate with local growers, industry stakeholders, and regulatory bodies to promote produce safety compliance. - You will provide technical assistance and training to farmers and agricultural professionals. - You will contribute to the development of policies and guidelines related to produce safety. - You will publish research findings and extension materials to disseminate knowledge. - You will participate in grant writing and secure funding to support produce safety initiatives. - You will engage with diverse communities to ensure inclusive outreach and education. What You Bring: - A Ph.D. in Plant Sciences, Food Safety, Agricultural Sciences, or a related field. - At least 3 years of experience in produce safety, agricultural extension, or related research. - Strong knowledge of produce safety regulations, including the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective stakeholder engagement. - Proven ability to conduct applied research and translate findings into practical applications. - Experience in grant writing and securing research funding. Bonus Points If You Have: - Experience working with diverse agricultural communities in California. - Familiarity with USDA-ARS research programs and collaboration. - Multilingual skills to support outreach in diverse populations. - Background in policy development related to food safety.
