Job Title: UC Cooperative Extension Specialist - Oak Woodland Stewardship Company Overview: The University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR) is a leading institution dedicated to advancing agricultural and natural resource management through research, education, and community engagement. With a statewide network of research and extension centers, UC ANR fosters sustainable practices and innovative solutions to support California's diverse ecosystems and agricultural communities. Role Overview: As a UC Cooperative Extension Specialist focused on Oak Woodland Stewardship, you will play a critical role in developing and delivering research-based knowledge and outreach programs to promote the health and sustainability of oak woodlands. You will collaborate with landowners, resource managers, and stakeholders to address ecological challenges and enhance conservation efforts. What You'll Do: - You will conduct applied research on oak woodland ecology, management, and restoration. - You will develop and implement extension programs to educate landowners and resource professionals. - You will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to address complex environmental issues. - You will publish research findings in scientific journals and extension materials. - You will secure funding through grant writing and partnerships to support your research and outreach. - You will engage with community stakeholders to promote sustainable land stewardship practices. - You will provide technical assistance and training to land managers and policymakers. - You will contribute to the development of policy recommendations related to oak woodland conservation. What You Bring: - A Ph.D. in forestry, ecology, natural resource management, or a related field. - At least 3 years of postdoctoral or professional experience in oak woodland or forest ecosystem research. - Strong expertise in ecological research methods and data analysis. - Excellent communication skills for diverse audiences, including scientific, landowner, and public groups. - Proven ability to secure external funding through grants. - Experience in collaborative, interdisciplinary research and extension work. Bonus Points If You Have: - Experience working in California's oak woodland ecosystems. - Established relationships with local landowners, agencies, and conservation groups. - Skills in GIS and remote sensing technologies. - Background in policy development or natural resource law.
