Role Overview: As a UC Cooperative Extension Specialist focused on Oak Woodland Stewardship, you will play a critical role in developing and delivering research-based knowledge and practical solutions to support the conservation and sustainable management of oak woodlands. You will work closely with landowners, resource managers, and stakeholders to promote healthy ecosystems and resilient landscapes. What You'll Do: - You will conduct applied research on oak woodland ecology, management practices, and restoration techniques. - You will develop and deliver educational programs, workshops, and materials for diverse audiences including landowners, policymakers, and conservation groups. - You will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, agencies, and community partners to advance stewardship goals. - You will secure funding through grant writing and manage project budgets effectively. - You will publish research findings in scientific journals and extension publications. - You will provide expert consultation and technical assistance to stakeholders. - You will contribute to the development of policies and best management practices for oak woodland conservation. What You Bring: - A Ph.D. in forestry, ecology, natural resource management, or a related field. - At least 3 years of postdoctoral or professional experience in oak woodland or forest ecosystem research and extension. - Strong skills in applied research, data analysis, and scientific writing. - Experience in community engagement, education, and stakeholder collaboration. - Proven ability to secure external funding through grants. - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Bonus Points If You Have: - Experience working in California’s oak woodland ecosystems. - Knowledge of policy development and natural resource regulations. - Proficiency with GIS and remote sensing tools. - Established network within natural resource management and conservation communities.
