Role Overview: As a UC Cooperative Extension Specialist focused on Oak Woodland Stewardship, you will play a critical role in developing and delivering research-based information and programs to promote the health and sustainability of oak woodlands. Located at the Hopland Research and Extension Center, you will collaborate with landowners, resource managers, and stakeholders to address ecological challenges and enhance conservation efforts. What You'll Do: - You will conduct applied research on oak woodland ecosystems to inform management practices. - You will develop and deliver educational programs and materials for landowners, resource managers, and the public. - You will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to address ecological and conservation challenges. - You will engage with community stakeholders to promote sustainable stewardship practices. - You will publish research findings in scientific journals and extension publications. - You will seek and secure funding through grants to support research and outreach activities. - You will provide expert consultation and technical assistance to landowners and agencies. - You will participate in statewide and regional initiatives related to natural resource management. What You Bring: - You have a Ph.D. in forestry, ecology, natural resource management, or a related field. - You have at least 3 years of postdoctoral or professional experience in oak woodland or forest ecosystem research. - You possess strong skills in applied research, program development, and stakeholder engagement. - You have excellent written and verbal communication skills for diverse audiences. - You are experienced in grant writing and securing external funding. - You have a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across disciplines and with community partners. Bonus Points If You Have: - Experience working in California’s oak woodland ecosystems. - Knowledge of fire ecology and its role in oak woodland management. - Familiarity with GIS and spatial analysis tools. - Established networks within natural resource agencies and conservation organizations.
