Role Overview: As the Cooperative Extension Area Low Desert Weed Management Advisor, you will play a critical role in developing and delivering research-based weed management solutions tailored to the unique agricultural and environmental conditions of Imperial and Riverside Counties. Your work will support growers, land managers, and stakeholders in implementing effective, sustainable weed control strategies. What You'll Do: - You will conduct applied research on weed biology, ecology, and management in low desert agricultural systems. - You will develop and deliver educational programs, workshops, and materials to growers, industry professionals, and community members. - You will collaborate with local, regional, and state partners to address weed management challenges and promote integrated pest management practices. - You will provide technical assistance and consultation to stakeholders to support sustainable weed control. - You will publish research findings and extension materials to disseminate knowledge broadly. - You will secure funding through grants and partnerships to support research and outreach activities. - You will monitor and evaluate program effectiveness and adapt strategies based on stakeholder feedback and scientific advancements. What You Bring: - You bring a Ph.D. in Weed Science, Agronomy, Plant Science, or a related field. - You have at least 3 years of experience in applied weed management research and extension. - You possess strong communication skills, including public speaking and scientific writing. - You have experience working with diverse agricultural communities and stakeholders. - You are proficient in grant writing and project management. Bonus Points If You Have: - Experience working in low desert or arid agricultural environments. - Knowledge of integrated pest management (IPM) principles and practices. - Established relationships with California agricultural producers and industry groups. - Fluency in Spanish to engage effectively with diverse communities.
