Job Title: Cooperative Extension Area Low Desert Weed Management Advisor - Serving Imperial and Riverside Counties Company Overview: The University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR) is a leading institution dedicated to advancing agricultural innovation, natural resource management, and community education. UC ANR collaborates with local communities, researchers, and industry experts to promote sustainable practices and improve the quality of life in California. Role Overview: As the Cooperative Extension Area Low Desert Weed Management Advisor, you will play a critical role in developing and delivering research-based weed management solutions tailored to the unique agricultural and environmental conditions of Imperial and Riverside Counties. Your work will support local growers and stakeholders in managing invasive and problematic weeds to enhance crop productivity and ecosystem health. What You'll Do: - You will conduct applied research on weed biology, ecology, and control methods specific to low desert environments. - You will develop and implement educational programs and workshops for growers, agricultural professionals, and community members. - You will collaborate with local, state, and federal agencies to coordinate weed management efforts and share best practices. - You will provide expert consultation and technical assistance to farmers and land managers. - You will publish research findings and extension materials to disseminate knowledge effectively. - You will engage with diverse audiences through outreach activities to promote sustainable weed management. - You will seek funding opportunities and manage grants to support research and extension projects. - You will contribute to the overall mission of UC ANR by participating in interdisciplinary teams and statewide initiatives. What You Bring: - You have a Ph.D. in Weed Science, Agronomy, Plant Ecology, or a related field. - You possess at least 3 years of experience in applied weed management research and extension. - You have strong knowledge of weed biology, integrated pest management, and herbicide application techniques. - You demonstrate excellent communication skills, including public speaking and scientific writing. - You are proficient in grant writing and project management. - You have the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and interdisciplinary teams. Bonus Points If You Have: - Experience working in low desert or arid agricultural environments. - Familiarity with California's agricultural systems and regulatory frameworks. - Fluency in Spanish to engage effectively with local communities. - A track record of successful community outreach and stakeholder engagement.
