Role Overview: As the Cooperative Extension Area Low Desert Weed Management Advisor, you will play a critical role in developing and delivering research-based weed management solutions tailored to the unique agricultural and environmental conditions of Imperial and Riverside Counties. Your work will support growers, land managers, and stakeholders in improving crop productivity and ecosystem health through integrated weed management strategies. What You'll Do: - You will conduct applied research on weed biology, ecology, and control methods specific to low desert environments. - You will develop and implement educational programs and workshops for growers, agricultural professionals, and community members. - You will collaborate with local, regional, and state agencies to promote sustainable weed management practices. - You will provide technical assistance and consultation to farmers and land managers to address weed-related challenges. - You will publish research findings and extension materials to disseminate knowledge effectively. - You will engage with diverse audiences to foster community involvement and adoption of best practices. - You will secure funding through grants and partnerships to support ongoing research and outreach activities. - You will contribute to the development of policies and strategies that enhance weed management in the region. What You Bring: - A Ph.D. in Weed Science, Agronomy, Plant Biology, or a related field. - At least 3 years of experience in applied weed management research and extension. - Strong knowledge of integrated weed management techniques and low desert agricultural systems. - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with diverse stakeholders. - Proven ability to develop and deliver educational programs and materials. - Experience in grant writing and securing research funding. Bonus Points If You Have: - Familiarity with the agricultural landscapes and cropping systems of Imperial and Riverside Counties. - Experience working with Cooperative Extension or similar outreach organizations. - Skills in GIS and data analysis related to weed management. - Bilingual abilities, particularly in Spanish, to better serve local communities.
