Role Overview: As the Cooperative Extension Area Low Desert Weed Management Advisor, you will play a critical role in developing and delivering research-based weed management solutions tailored to the unique agricultural and environmental conditions of Imperial and Riverside Counties. Your work will support growers, land managers, and stakeholders in implementing effective, sustainable weed control strategies. What You'll Do: - You will conduct applied research on weed biology, ecology, and management in low desert agricultural systems. - You will develop and deliver educational programs, workshops, and materials to growers, industry professionals, and community members. - You will collaborate with local, state, and federal agencies to address weed management challenges and regulatory issues. - You will provide technical assistance and consultation to stakeholders to promote integrated weed management practices. - You will publish research findings and extension materials to disseminate knowledge broadly. - You will engage with diverse audiences to foster community involvement and support for sustainable weed management. - You will seek funding opportunities and manage grants to support research and extension activities. What You Bring: - You bring a Ph.D. in Weed Science, Agronomy, Plant Biology, or a closely related field. - You have at least 3 years of postdoctoral or professional experience in weed management research or extension. - You possess strong knowledge of integrated weed management strategies and low desert agricultural systems. - You have excellent communication skills, including public speaking, writing, and interpersonal abilities. - You are proficient in grant writing and project management. Bonus Points If You Have: - Experience working with diverse agricultural stakeholders in California's low desert regions. - Familiarity with regulatory frameworks related to pesticide use and invasive species management. - Demonstrated success in securing competitive research funding. - Bilingual skills, particularly in Spanish, to engage effectively with local communities.
