Role Overview: As the Low Desert Weed Management Advisor, you will serve Imperial and Riverside Counties by providing expert guidance on weed management strategies tailored to the unique challenges of the low desert environment. Your role is pivotal in supporting agricultural productivity, environmental health, and community education through research, outreach, and collaboration. What You'll Do: - You will develop and implement integrated weed management programs specific to low desert agricultural systems. - You will conduct applied research to identify effective, sustainable weed control methods. - You will collaborate with farmers, industry stakeholders, and government agencies to promote best practices. - You will deliver educational workshops, seminars, and training sessions to diverse audiences. - You will publish research findings and extension materials to disseminate knowledge. - You will monitor and evaluate the impact of weed management strategies on crop yields and ecosystem health. - You will secure funding through grant writing and partnership development. - You will provide expert consultation and support to address emerging weed management challenges. What You Bring: - You bring a Master’s degree or higher in Agronomy, Plant Science, Weed Science, or a related field. - You have at least 3 years of experience in weed management research or extension services. - You possess strong knowledge of integrated pest management and sustainable agriculture practices. - You have excellent communication skills for diverse audiences, including farmers, researchers, and policymakers. - You are proficient in data analysis, research methodologies, and scientific writing. - You have the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment. Bonus Points If You Have: - Experience working in low desert or arid agricultural environments. - Familiarity with California’s agricultural regulations and policies. - Proven success in securing competitive research grants. - Fluency in Spanish to engage effectively with diverse community members.
