Role Overview: As the Cooperative Extension Area Low Desert Weed Management Advisor, you will play a critical role in developing and delivering research-based weed management solutions tailored to the unique agricultural and environmental conditions of Imperial and Riverside Counties. Your work will support growers, land managers, and stakeholders in implementing effective, sustainable weed control strategies. What You'll Do: - You will conduct applied research on weed biology, ecology, and management in low desert agricultural systems. - You will develop and deliver educational programs, workshops, and materials to growers, industry professionals, and the public. - You will collaborate with local stakeholders, including farmers, government agencies, and environmental groups, to address weed management challenges. - You will provide expert consultation and technical assistance to support integrated weed management practices. - You will monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of weed control methods and adapt strategies based on findings. - You will publish research findings and extension materials to disseminate knowledge widely. - You will seek funding opportunities and manage grants to support research and outreach activities. - You will participate in professional development and contribute to the broader UC ANR mission. What You Bring: - You bring a Ph.D. in Weed Science, Agronomy, Plant Biology, or a related field. - You have at least 3 years of postdoctoral or professional experience in weed management research or extension. - You possess strong knowledge of integrated weed management and sustainable agricultural practices. - You have excellent communication skills, including experience in public speaking and educational program delivery. - You are proficient in data analysis, research methodologies, and scientific writing. - You demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and communities. Bonus Points If You Have: - Experience working in low desert or arid agricultural environments. - Familiarity with California's agricultural systems and regulatory frameworks. - Established networks within agricultural or environmental organizations in Imperial and Riverside Counties. - Skills in grant writing and project management.
