Job Title: Cooperative Extension Area Low Desert Weed Management Advisor - Serving Imperial and Riverside Counties Company Overview: The University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR) is a leading institution dedicated to advancing agricultural innovation, natural resource management, and community education across California. UC ANR collaborates with local communities, researchers, and industry experts to promote sustainable practices and improve the quality of life in diverse regions. Role Overview: As the Cooperative Extension Area Low Desert Weed Management Advisor, you will play a critical role in developing and delivering research-based weed management solutions tailored to the unique agricultural and environmental conditions of Imperial and Riverside Counties. Your work will support growers, land managers, and stakeholders in managing invasive and problematic weeds to enhance crop productivity and ecosystem health. What You'll Do: - You will conduct applied research on weed biology, ecology, and control methods specific to low desert environments. - You will develop and implement educational programs and workshops for growers, agricultural professionals, and community members. - You will collaborate with local, state, and federal agencies to coordinate integrated weed management strategies. - You will provide expert consultation and technical assistance to farmers and land managers. - You will publish research findings and extension materials to disseminate knowledge effectively. - You will engage with diverse audiences through outreach activities to promote sustainable weed management practices. - You will secure funding through grant writing to support research and extension projects. - You will participate in professional development and contribute to the broader UC ANR mission. What You Bring: - A Ph.D. in Weed Science, Agronomy, Plant Biology, or a related field. - At least 3 years of experience in weed management research and extension. - Strong knowledge of integrated pest management (IPM) and sustainable agriculture practices. - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage diverse stakeholders. - Proven ability to write grants and publish scientific and extension materials. - Experience working in arid or low desert agricultural systems is highly desirable. Bonus Points If You Have: - Experience working with diverse agricultural communities in California. - Familiarity with GIS and remote sensing technologies for weed mapping. - Bilingual skills, particularly in Spanish, to better serve local communities. - A track record of successful collaboration with government agencies and industry partners.
