Role Overview: As the Low Desert Weed Management Advisor, you will play a critical role in developing and delivering research-based weed management strategies tailored to the unique agricultural environments of Imperial and Riverside Counties. Your work will support growers, stakeholders, and local communities in managing invasive and problematic weeds to enhance crop productivity and environmental health. What You'll Do: - You will conduct applied research on weed biology, ecology, and control methods specific to low desert agricultural systems. - You will develop and implement educational programs and workshops for growers, pest control advisors, and agricultural professionals. - You will collaborate with local, regional, and state agencies to promote integrated weed management practices. - You will provide expert consultation and technical support to farmers and agricultural stakeholders. - You will publish research findings and extension materials to disseminate knowledge effectively. - You will secure funding through grants and partnerships to support ongoing research and outreach activities. - You will monitor and evaluate the impact of weed management programs and adjust strategies accordingly. - You will engage with diverse communities to ensure inclusive and accessible extension services. What You Bring: - A Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Weed Science, Agronomy, Plant Science, or a related field. - At least 3 years of experience in weed management research or extension work. - Strong knowledge of integrated pest management (IPM) principles and weed control technologies. - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective stakeholder engagement. - Proven ability to write scientific publications and extension materials. - Experience in grant writing and project management. Bonus Points If You Have: - Familiarity with the agricultural systems and crops of Imperial and Riverside Counties. - Experience working with diverse agricultural communities and bilingual communication skills. - Background in remote sensing or GIS applications for weed management. - Established network within California’s agricultural research and extension community.
